POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Director of Academic Support partners with the School Counselor and oversees the Learning Specialist and Academic Support Curriculum to provide daily maintenance and support of all student learning needs. The Director of Academic Support serves as a liaison between the school, parents, outside service providers, and classroom teachers to promote the academic success of every student. The Director of Academic Support is a member of the Division Head’s Leadership Team and assists the Division Head in the delivery and fulfillment of the School’s Mission. The Director of Academic Support reports to the Division Head. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

? Designs and monitors the curriculum of Humanities Lab and Learning Lab.
? Partners with classroom teachers to implement strategies and modification to best meet the diverse learning needs of students. 

? Maintains appropriate and confidential records of student learning plans and assessment results. 

? Assists in developing educational programs, curriculum modifications, and teacher and parent training and workshops. 

? Serves as point of contact for all outside learning service providers and communicates outside support with classroom teachers. 

? Provides one-on-one instruction for students in the areas of executive functioning, including time management, organization skills, study skills, and test taking skills. 

? Works in partnership with parents, faculty, and administration to interpret and implement accommodations as recommended in psychological and educational testing reports. 

? Designs and implements formal, school-based accommodation plans for students.

? Coordinates and supervises the administration of CTP5 and other assessments.
? Serves as a Faculty Advisor for a group of 8-15 students by implementing the Advisory Curriculum and forming and nurturing strong relationships with students and parents. 

? Provides support in academics and executive functioning skills during Study Hall Lishma. 

? Provides classroom push-in or pull-out instruction to support teachers in meeting diverse learning needs. 

? Along with the School Counselor, serves as the chief articulator of student needs to middle school and upper school faculty. 

? Provides coaching and supervision to teachers in the areas of leadership, differentiation, curriculum design, instruction and classroom management. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

? A strong sense of commitment to Milken Community School’s Mission.
? Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction or related field, and a minimum of five years of classroom teaching experience. 

? Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

? Leadership experience in a school setting. 

? Innovative and creative. 

? Possess a love and empathy for adolescents and teens. 

? Must be patient and disciplined. 

? Inspires collaboration among colleagues and is inclusive. 

? Organized, flexible, able to contend with complexity and nuances. 

? Proficient with educational technology platforms. 

? Highly knowledgeable in the developmental needs of all students, with an expertise in the unique needs of middle school students. 

? Highly knowledgeable in best practices of curriculum, instruction, differentiation, and assessments. 

? Effective in supporting and maintaining an effective learning climate.
? Able to provide leadership and expertise in communicating the needs of diverse learners. 

? Able to provide leadership and expertise in interpreting and disseminating data and psycho-educational assessment results. 

? Effective in communicating with parents, administration, faculty, outside service providers and the extended educational community. 

? Efficient with time management, organizational skills, and meeting deadlines
? Is professional, timely, and compassionate in responding to all constituents.
