Responsibilities

The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (DGSOM) is comprised of 24 academic departments, 5 organized research units, and 5 interdisciplinary research centers and is the academic home to approximately 3,400 faculty and 2,900 trainees, students, and fellows.

The DGSOM employs about 8,400 staff and non-faculty academics.

The DGSOM’s annual revenue totals approximately $2.8B, its expendable net assets approximately $1.3B and its endowments and quasi endowments approximately $1.9B.
The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (DGSOM) seeks to hire a Decision Support Analyst.

Under general supervision of the Associate Director, Decision Support, the Decision Support Analyst position will be a key member of the Decision Support team within the Financial Affairs Unit of the Dean’s Office.

This position will be responsible for the production of quantitative data-driven reporting & analyses to support and strategic decision-making by evaluating DGSOM’s financial performance and underlying drivers
The Decision Support analyst’s primary responsibility will be supporting the enhancement of existing system-wide financial and operational dashboards as well as development of new dashboards to support strategic initiatives.

S/he will also be involved with the numerous ongoing projects relating to the identification of sponsored research revenue opportunities, cost savings opportunities, space utilization analysis, quality/cost analysis, and productivity analysis.

The Decision Support Analyst will also be engaged in funds flow modeling and feasibility studies, faculty productivity and operational benchmarking, as well as various benchmarking activities or special projects as needed.
The ideal candidate would have decision support system or academic healthcare-related experience.

In particular, the ideal candidate would be experienced in evaluating financial and operational trends, data analysis, data reconciliation, and visualization.

In addition, the candidate should be capable of navigating large data sets to identify trends of underlying drivers.

This position will require the ability to balance priorities, often shifting priorities, in a challenging and complex environment.

S/he will be reliable team player, have a sense of initiative and eagerness to learn and have strong communication skills.

Lastly, s/he should align with the values of the Cultural North Star and have strong commitment to DGSOM’s multiple missions.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent in relevant field (specialization in accounting, finance, economics, mathematics, computer science or business administration preferred)
Minimum of 4-5 years of FP&A experience in a related field
Exceptional assessment, analytical, organizational, math and problem-solving skills accompanied by desire to understand underlying issues / drivers
Creative problem solver with the ability to synthesize complex and diverse information from disparate sources and deliver comprehensive, balanced, and actionable insights, leveraging intuition and experience to complement findings in data
Knowledge of and experience in implementing Business Intelligence concepts and experience in building robust dashboards to support organization decision support.
Demonstrated commitment to quality and accuracy; looks for ways to improve and promote quality; applies feedback to improve performance; monitors own work to ensure quality
Excellent customer service interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
Experience with Business Intelligence and visualization tools (Tableau, SQL, PowerBI, Cognos) and proven ability to use tools to guide decision making preferred
Advanced knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Business intelligence tools
High level of ethics, integrity, discretion and confidentiality; Supports the Cultural North Star principles through demonstrated behaviors and interactions.
