Residential Construction Estimator

Established residential custom home builder/general contractor with an outstanding reputation in the West Los Angeles area for the last 30 years is seeking an experienced full time Construction Estimator. Work location will be WLA office and various WLA jobsites, and job reports to the President and VP/Chief Estimator.

Job Description:

Manage all parts of the estimating process for large remodels and new home construction, including:

  • Review and understand all bid documents (plans, requirements and specifications).
  • Anticipate issues/missing information and prepare questions for owner/architect.
  • Prepare RFP’s (request for proposals) and provide subsequent subcontractor follow up.
  • Determine labor, material and time requirements.
  • Confirm proposals meet current building codes.
  • Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs and materials pricing.
  • Assist preparing project schedule.
  • Compare and analyze competitive subcontractor and supplier bids.
  • Review quotes and estimates with the Management Team.
  • Preparation of full contractor bid, ready for client submittal.
  • Occasional assisting of project supervisors at various jobsites.

Required Skills:

  • Fluency in English (spoken and written). Other languages a plus, but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of construction means, methods and costs.
  • Very computer literate – Microsoft Office suite, Dropbox, PDF editing, high typing wpm speed and ease of using the internet for research.
  • Ability to read blue prints.
  • Extreme attention to detail, efficiency, accuracy, thoroughness and consistency.
  • Ability to write and read a scope of work.
  • Ability to anticipate trades that are left off a scope, based on experience in the industry.
  • Ability to prioritize, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • High level of organization.

Required Experience:

  • 3 years estimating medium to high end residential projects – $500K to $5M.

Required License or Certification:

  • CA Driver’s License.
