VP of Finance

We are seeking an Vice President, Financial Planning & Control. Based in the Los Angeles area and reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the VP of Financial Planning and Control leads the global accounting function and is responsible for creating and driving accounting processes, policies, controls, planning and reporting in support of the Company ‘s business goals.

The hands-on VP of Financial Planning and Control will be accountable for financial and control related operations of the Company, including accurate and timely financial reporting (internal, Board of Directors, Lenders, Rating Agencies). The role encompasses key stakeholder relationships, including at Corporate and the business unit level. It will also liaise closely with the Audit Committee.

With a proven track-record of building high performance teams, the VP of Financial Planning and Control will be a change agent delivering efficiencies in all processes. S/he will lead a small team of professionals across the Accounting, Controller, FP&A, Treasury, Tax and broader compliance functions. S/he will also be in close communication and responsible for coordination with the finance teams at each of the business units.

  • Build a best in-class accounting organization through recruitment, development and retention of top talent; instill a culture that emphasizes accountability and transparency among the accounting team.
  • Develop and strengthen financial systems, policies, procedures and controls to ensure the integrity of financial data.
  • Drive transformation and process enhancements (including through use of technology) throughout the accounting organization. Reduce and improve close cycle time.
  • Ownership of all technical accounting, implementation of new standards and compliance with all relevant existing standards.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting in compliance with GAAP; manage all monthly and year-end closings including year-end audit and the preparation of consolidated financial statements.
  • Manage the relationship and interactions with external auditors to support successful fiscal year-end audits; support local statutory audits.
  • Oversee cash management activity.
  • Build an FP&A capability to ensure accurate and timely reported results and forecasts necessary for management to make timely and informed business decisions.
  • Participate in strategic initiatives of the Company involving accounting matters and including acquisitions and divestiture accounting and active engagement with integrations.
  • Lead and support ad hoc special projects as required.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 12 years of strong experience in accounting, financial reporting, controllership or FP&A, with at least 5 years as a financial leader in the broader media sector.
  • Bachelor ‘s degree and a Certified Public Accountant with a strong command of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • A demonstrated track record of success at companies operating in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to work initially with a very lean team commensurate with a startup mentality
  • Proven ability to build high-performance teams that achieve superior levels of performance and deploy processes and tools to enhance data, reporting and ability to drive results.
  • History of initiating and leading successful accounting transformation initiatives with significant impact organization-wide.
  • Strong business and financial acumen with a command of core financial concepts and disciplines including: accounting, treasury/cash management, budgeting/forecasting, financial modeling, and tax.
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills needed to effectively engage and influence the organization at all levels; the ideal candidate is both a collaborative team leader and team player.
  • M&A experience required.
  • Prior private equity, capital raise and sale process related experience preferred.
  • Experience with enterprise accounting software a plus.
  • Leader-by-example with unmatched integrity.
