Sr Director, Financial Planning & Analysis

We are seeking a highly motivated FP&A leader with life science company experience to join our Finance team as a first hire in FP&A and reporting directly to the CFO. This role will play a key part in building the FP&A foundation for A2 based on best practices, as we move our innovative scientific programs towards the clinic. You will work across all functions to ensure proper budgeting, planning and financial decision making for the Company. Over time, you will build out the FP&A function as appropriate to support a growing and dynamic company. Being part of a small Finance team, you may also be required to participate in financial close and other processes as well. This position is located at our Agoura Hills, CA location and can also be remotely based (in the US) for the right candidate. There is also flexibility around job title depending on your level of experience. Responsibilities Lead and manage end-to-end financial planning processes (e.g. budgets, forecasts, and long-range planning), including modeling, presentations, timeline and stakeholder management Serve as financial business partner to each function by providing financial input and decision support to various stakeholders Provide critical business and financial insights to inform strategic decisions by creating business cases and financial models Analyze and interpret financial results for various stakeholders, ranging from functional level to Board level; collaborate with the Accounting Team and assist as necessary on financial close processes, accruals, and Budget vs Actual analyses Implement additional systems, processes, models, and reporting to support ongoing financial planning, analysis and decision needs for a rapidly growing business, including implementation of a planning system and its integration with other corporate and financial management systems Design and maintain financial tracking and reporting for each function, including clinical operations, manufacturing and technical operations, research and G&A; manage expenses to budget by proactively working with functional teams on business needs and reviewing requests Manage ad-hoc requests and analysis Over time, build and manage A2’s FP&A organization Qualified Candidates Should Have: Leadership skills to influence others to drive change and business outcomes, as well as proven ability to work cross-functionally as a business partner Strategic thinking skills and sharp business acumen, coupled with strong analytical skills and attention to detail required of financial models and processes Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, especially the ability to distill complex financials to effective messages for all levels of stakeholders High degree of initiative and bias towards execution and solutions, and willingness to do what it takes to operate in a dynamic environment of a small biotech Requirements Bachelor’s degree and 12-15 years’ experience in Financial Planning & Analysis and Accounting (or Master’s degree and 10-12 years’ experience) including 5 years of managerial experience. CPA/MBA is preferred Experience in biotech and/or pharmaceutical industry; knowledge of internal manufacturing, clinical trials and partnerships highly preferred Understanding of GAAP accounting principles Experience and familiarity with ERP (SAP By Design) and financial planning software Advanced skills in MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint Benefits At A2 Bio, every member of staff plays a critical role in ensuring we deliver on our mission.
