Senior Accountant

Description: CANDIDATES MUST LIVE IN THE KANSAS CITY METRO AREA TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION.

Purpose: The Senior Accountant will be responsible for general accounting functions including assisting with accounts payable, preparing journal entries, maintaining balance sheet schedules, daily banking activities and bank reconciliations.

This position will also assist with month end close, account analysis and helping the Controller carry out the responsibilities of the Finance department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsible for general accounting functions and related activities.

Assist Controller in completion of month-end close and reporting.

Assist with the preparation of internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from internal departments.

Assist with the preparation of information for audit requests from external auditors.

Reconcile monthly premiums and claims activity and assist with the reporting to insurance carriers.

Analyze data by developing spreadsheet reports and verifying information.

Perform daily banking transactions and reporting.

Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations; reconcile monthly bank statements.

Develop and implement accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures, recommending changes.

Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.

Support Accounts Payable activities and other duties/responsibilities as needed.

Assist with MGU activities
– analysis, track applications, accounting data tracking, premium payment analysis, carrier reporting, process requests, etc.

Provide support on ad-hoc requests and related special projects, as required.

Manage fixed assets schedules and reconciliations.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting 3 years’ accounting experience Proficient in Microsoft Office Intermediate Excel Strong organizational and analytical skills Experience in health insurance industry helpful Desire to learn and grow with the organization Willing to take on new roles and responsibilities as needed Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Strong computer and mathematical skills Demonstrate decision-making abilities and creative problem solving Ability to Speak English fluently.
