Job Purpose:

The Senior Accountant is a self-motivated, detail- and deadline-oriented professional with experience in financial statements preparation and month-end and year-end close process. Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and GAAP accounting required.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Essential Functions:

  1. Mange the day-to-day accounting of assigned assets
  2. Assist in monitoring operating cash accounts and cash position
  3. Reconcile bank accounts including researching tenant deposits, posting manual checks, and recording cash transfers
  4. Reconcile loan reserve and impound accounts
  5. Perform month-end, quarter-end and year-end close including reconciling general ledger accounts to subledgers and supporting schedules
  6. Review financial reporting packages for completeness and accuracy prior to distribution and provide to investors and management timely
  7. Interpretation and application of property loan documents, operating agreements, organizational charts, and other pertinent documents to ensure compliance
  8. Prepare monthly and quarterly actual to budget variance analyses
  9. Prepare and maintain monthly and quarterly equity rollforward schedules
  10. Update and maintain schedules for property tax, property insurance and Balance Sheet accounts
  11. Post journal entries for month-end and year-end close including operating expense and capital expenditure accruals
  12. Record audit adjusting journal entries and reconcile financial statements to audited financial statements
  13. Calculate property, asset, and construction management fees
  14. Calculate franchise tax and ensure timely annual filing
  15. Calculate debt covenant and ensure compliance
  16. Update and maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules and calculate monthly depreciation and amortization expenses
  17. Update and maintain investor required construction sources and uses workbook
  18. Calculate and manage partner equity contribution, distribution and retained earnings
  19. Update and maintain capital contribution schedules for each partnership
  20. Gather capital expenditure invoices for capital call and prepare capital call notices
  21. Prepare Lender required quarterly and annual debt compliance packages
  22. Assist in monitoring Lender required replacement and repairs for completion
  23. Prepare Lender reserve draw requests including gathering invoices and completing required forms
  24. Liaise with internal and external business partners such as operations and accounting teams, investors, lenders, and auditors
  25. Respond to investor requests in a professional and timely manner
  26. Assist in coordinating annual financial audits including preparing and providing support to external auditors as requested
  27. Work closely with operations to ensure accuracy and timely operating reporting
  28. Research and resolve invoice discrepancies with accounts payable and/or operations
  29. Monitor monthly tenant rent relief receipts from government agencies
  30. Participate in the annual budget preparation providing operating expense information as required
  31. Assist with reconciling investor distributions and tax preparation at year-end
  32. Ad-hoc projects and assignments as directed by supervisor
  33. Maintains regular and consistent attendance according to required work schedule decided by the Company
  34. Provides exemplary service to employees and guests and represents the Company in a professional manner at all times

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, required
  • Avid or PAYscan experience ideal

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum three years of accounting experience, property accounting preferred
  • Residential multifamily environment preferred
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and GAAP accounting required
