Responsibilities
The General Ledger Accountant is a key member of the Deans Office Financial Affairs team and is responsible for various accounting functions including journal entries, payroll and general ledger reconciliations, post award fund management, research and other administrative duties.
In this role, you will assist in closing activities and variance review processes, assist with troubleshooting, identify and implement process improvements, and support the completion of department projects.
You will be responsible for all payroll and general ledger verifications and fund reconciliations of Deans Office funds and play a critical role in satisfying SAS 115 key controls requirements.
You will also be tasked with the responsibility and ownership of creating and processing all journal entries for the Deans Office including payroll expense transfers.
You will beresponsible for ensuring all journals are prepared in the correct forms and in compliance with all regulatory requirements, policies and procedures set forth for each type of journal.
You will monitor daily accounting operations performed by the Accounts Payable Specialist team and reviews/approves employee expense reimbursement requests for compliance and will assist in the financial management of the DGSOM Deans Office affiliation agreements (primarily Los Angeles County and the US Dept.
of Veterans Affairs).
Qualifications
BA/BS with a major in a related field is required
Minimum two years of experience in accounting operations preferred
Knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and SAS 115 strongly preferred
Thorough knowledge of and current hands-on experience with fund accounting and regulatory compliance strongly preferred
Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex and diverse information; collect and research data and use intuition and experience to complement data
Demonstrated problem solving skills; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem solving situations
