nnMV Transportation is seeking a Director of Finance for the Southern California region, to provide financial leadership, support and guidance in a multi-divisional environment to his/her assigned region.
The Director of Finance reports on a direct line to the VP of Finance and on a dotted line to the Senior Vice President of Operations for the region.
He/she will have full responsibility for all financial matters at operating sites in the region, and will be responsible for billing clients, paying employees and closing the books monthly, accurately and timely.
Additionally, he/she will have oversight responsibility for fareboxes, where applicable, and safeguarding assets such as vehicles, fuel and parts inventory.
He/she must meet internal and external financial reporting requirements which include variance analyses versus budget and prior year.
A key aspect of the role is providing decision support to the SVP in matters such as client rate and union negotiations.
nn nn Job Responsibilities: nn Oversight of the monthly accounting close of Region, including preparing and submitting journal entries to accrue supported revenues and expenses Perform operational and financial analysis within business units and present findings as well as recommendations to Managers and C-Suite.
Preparation of annual budgets and monthly forecasts of divisions within Region.
Submit monthly Risks and Opportunities of achieving the Region”s divisions” budgeted and forecasted expenses.
Provide oversight for all accounting and financial functions of the Region, including Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable.
Assigns and supervises the work of financial subordinates within the Region.
Work with Corporate management and Division Clients to collect on past-due payments.
Develop and implement financial controls to achieve business objectives, and provide guidance and direction to the regional team to assist in improving financial performance.
Assist in streamlining business processes at the business unit level to achieve business goals, and ensure they are in compliance with financially-related company policies and practices.
Work closely with Internal Audit, as needed, to investigate and correct operational and financial issues.
Assist the SVP of Operations in preparation for monthly operation reviews.
Prepare internal reporting package including operating metrics, financial controls and performance indicators that will help in improving business performance.
Has responsibility for employee evaluations and for effectively recommending the hiring, firing, promoting, demoting, and/or disciplining of employees.
Provide decision support to the SVP of Operations for client and union negotiations.
Other Accounting and Financial duties as assigned.
nn Talent Requirements: Education nn Bachelor”s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Accounting, or a closely related field.
Additional related work experience may, at the sole discretion of the company, be considered in lieu of the stated educational requirement.
CPA is a definite plus.
nn Knowledge, Skill and Ability nn Four (4) or more years” financial accounting or analyst experience.
Strong knowledge of GAAP principles of Accounting.
Knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures used in budgeting/forecasting, accounting, internal auditing, program evaluation, and financial and managerial reporting.
Knowledge of the preparation of involved and detailed accounting and other financial reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
Must have a strong understanding of field operations to provide input to fiscally strengthen operating sites and troubleshoot problems.
Ability to utilize principles, methods, techniques, and systems of financial management.
Ability to assist in developing, applying, and adjusting financial plans and policies to attain objectives.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management.
Ability to apply sound, independent judgment in the solutions of financial problems and in the administration of financial programs.
Ability to make oral and written presentations in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to learn to utilize various types of automated systems and/or manual tools used by the company.
Position may include frequent travel.
