The Director of Finance will lead day-to-day finance operations of a budget of over $50 million and assist in supervising a team of approximately 20 staff members including functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, finance, payroll, and grants administration/compliance.  The Director of Finance will ensure that JFS has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and conduct flawless audits.   The Director of Finance will work closely with program and department leaders and their staffs, to educate them regarding finance procedures and metrics, and develop the finance function to support effective operations.  The Director of Finance will create detailed presentation materials and reports for the board of directors, and board finance and audit committees to be used in periodic board meetings, as well as oversee the production of detailed monthly financial reporting packets.

The Director of Finance will also support the maintenance of the organization’s banking, financing, auditor, program, and other key financial relationships.  The Director of Finance will continuously evaluate the organization’s capital structure, liquidity, and financial performance vs. budget, and develop proposals for corrective action and improvements where prudent. The Director of Finance will also evaluate financing, strategic financial and transaction alternatives, M&A opportunities, and special financial projects for the organization in the ordinary course of operations. 

 The Director of Finance will support the financial development and growth of JFS’ homecare agency, JFS Care.   The Director of Finance will also partner with the CFO, senior leadership, and the human resources (HR), information technology (IT), and facilities staff to enhance and better integrate finance, HR, IT, and facilities functions. 

 Qualifications:                                      

  • 10 year of progressive Finance and Accounting experience
  • Minimum of a BA in a related field (finance, accounting, business)
  • MBA or MPA is preferred 
  • CPA is a plus 
  • 5 years of increasingly responsible management experience, a portion of which includes oversight and development of staff
  • Commitment to recruiting, mentoring, training, and retaining a diverse team; the foresight and ability to delegate accordingly
  • A track record in grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, corporate and foundation grants is a plus
  • Keen analytical and problem-solving skills which allow for strategic data interpretation vs. simple reporting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data to senior management, non-finance staff, and external partners 
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines
  • An independent strategic thinker with good judgment, sensitivity, and common sense.  Self-starter with ability to identify problems and establish solutions independently
  • Technology savvy with advanced knowledge and/or the ability to rapidly learn accounting and reporting software; exceptional Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) skills
  • Strong team-player, with proven ability to obtain results across cross-functional teams and departments
  • Experience with company real estate property ownership, management, and financing is a plus
  • Must pass a criminal background check (Live Scan fingerprinting) prior to beginning employment

Responsibilities/Essential Functions: 

Finance and Accounting Leadership

  • This position is responsible for the direct supervision of the following positions: Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, Controller and Director of Contracts and Claims Management
  • Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance staff
  • Consistently analyze financial data and produce financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership and program and resource development staff, directors, and management abreast of JFS’ financial status
  • Direct the creation of financial performance reports for programs, with key performance indicators to ensure high operational efficiency and effective service delivery
  • Assist JFS’ leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate
  • Support the work of the Board through providing regular, timely and accurate information and reports, as needed
  • Continuously monitor and update our finance & accounting policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with program directors to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and maintain finance and administrative systems to support program operations
  • Ensure integration of administrative and service delivery data to achieve optimal fiscal and service delivery performance, for the benefit of JFS’ clients
  • Manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines
  • Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with finance and program staff
  • Continuously evaluate the organization’s capital structure, liquidity, and financial performance vs. budget, and develop proposals for corrective action and improvements where prudent
  • Ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; develop financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants
  • Work with the Controller to oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
  • Work with the Controller to maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures
  • Work with the Controller, Director of Contracts and Claims, and program directors to coordinate all audit activity
  • Serve as a liaison with key personnel at funding sources and monitoring agencies, developing effective relationships
  • Provide direction and timely financial guidance and reports to the JFS Care CEO and other staff (JFS’ homecare agency).  Develop and implement financial strategies for optimal growth and development of JFS Care’s business lines

  • Leverage strengths of other finance team members, help to clarify roles and responsibilities, and develop and implement training programs to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals
  • Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with finance staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment
  • Other related duties as assigned
