About the Role:

The TOMS Controller is responsible for all aspects of operational accounting and functions including: Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and tax reporting. This role and functional reports are located in our Los Angeles Headquarters and partner closely with regional finance staff in the EMEA region and APAC region. The Controller is actively involved in the decision-making process for all financial systems, including the financial reporting systems, and the ERP system (SAP, and related systems/modules). The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, collaborator, and motivator through business transformation and a fast-paced work environment. The individual will have relevant experience in Finance within the footwear wholesale, retail and ecommerce operations. This role reports into the Chief Financial Officer.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead and oversee the day-to-day management of all aspects of operational accounting and functions: AP, AR, Tax Reporting
- Partner closely with CFO to identify and mitigate risk and foreseen impacts of operational decisions/initiatives.
- Act as lead finance partner to CFO in various special projects including operational, financial and/or global initiatives
- Collaborate with department heads to drive budgeting initiatives
- Responsible for the timely and accurate closing of monthly, quarterly and annual management reporting in compliance with US GAAP compliant financial statements and reports
- Establish an unwavering financial control across the company
- Prepare financial statements and work with FP&A on analyses for presentations to senior management and board of directors
- Oversee Tax Director and review periodic tax and other distributions to shareholders, as well as sales tax and other filings. Ensure tax returns and other filings are completed on time.
- Establish, maintain and document internal accounting controls and procedures
- Seek process improvements to drive expense savings and to improve the accuracy & timeliness of financial close
- Ensure that the accounting department fully supports the operating business units in the timely and strategic issuance of credit to customers, and payment to vendors
- Ensure rational and efficient processes, as well as clear communication with vendors and customers are in place
- Manage the external audit process and issuance of GAAP financial statements
What You Bring:
- Exceptional managerial skills including staff management, development, coaching, delegation and multitasking
- Strong communication, interpersonal & management skills
- Experience with operational aspects of accounting and tax reporting
- Ability to work across the organization at a high level, interacting with top leaders of operating and support units
- Experience in multi-entity, multi-currency closing and consolidation
- SAP AFS experience strongly preferred
- Ability to work independently and prioritize workload
- Strong computer skills (SAP, Excel, etc.)
- Self-starter who exemplifies a propensity to take initiative
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
- Active CPA
- Experience including Big 4 public company and previous controllership experience strongly preferred
- SAP Finance & Controlling (FI/CO) knowledge with a high degree of comfort with all FI master data (profit centers, cost centers, COA, functional areas, internal orders)
