AGENCY: 1736 Family Crisis Center offers crisis intervention services, including four 24-hour hotlines, as well as longer-term services in client advocacy and outpatient psychotherapy. The residential counseling and support services include shelter programs for runaway and homeless youth, battered women and their children (crisis and longer-term programs), along with Homeless prevention and rapid re-housing services for US Military Veterans and their families. Community outreach programs are provided to educate the public and prevent mental-health problems in the general population and in targeted groups as at risk for certain difficulties.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Screen clients for CARES eligibility
- Complete CARES paperwork including financial needs assessment forms.
- Screen CARES clients for emergency financial relief assistance
- Develop with the CARES clients, mutually agreed upon family goals and dreams;
- Build the families knowledge, skills and access to products and services around five pillars of financial security: 1) assets- assist families in building assets by working with them to create and implement plans for consistent savings, 2) banking connect families to low-cost mainstream banking services, 3) credit assist families in boosting credit scores by addressing negative information on credit reports and helping them build a solid credit history, 4) debt assist families in reducing their debt through budgeting and financial planning; and 5) taxes assist families with free tax preparation services to ensure families receive local and federal tax credits as well as encouraging them to save a portion of their refund for long-term goals
- Provide and coordinate financial education workshops, which includes: preparation, speaker/partner coordination, coordination with sites, room set-up, class facilitation, program evaluation, and follow up with clients;
- Works with the team to continuously improve curriculum design and delivery utilizing participants feedback, self-evaluation, and by staying current on best-and promising-practices in the field
- Provides individual financial coaching to clients to help clients meet their individual financial goals
- Maintain complete and accurate client files
- Collect and compile client data for program assessment and evaluation purposes and incorporate client success stories and anecdotes into program reports; may include preparing and entering data into various data tracking systems, and pulling/reviewing pre-set reports as needed by funder or for program evaluation purposes
- Network, outreach, and maintain relationships with program staff, financial institutions and other social service providers to exchange referrals
- Maintain and document financial coaching activities in accordance with agency and funder guidelines and procedures. Collect data and participate in evaluation and quality assurance activities
- Conduct community presentations and assist with trainings and meetings
- Prepare and submit program reports to supervisor on a monthly basis;
- Attend and actively participate in team meetings, in-service trainings, staff development meetings, and all required meetings and trainings
- Participate in the CARES performance excellence initiative
- Participate in the planning and coordination of yearly events for families
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor and executive leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Knowledge and experience with educational and asset building programs and available resources
- Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred
- Empathetic listener and non-judgmental interviewing skills
- Creative problem solver and ability to take initiative;
- Excellent work ethic and ability to work under pressure, address multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Ability to maintain appropriate, professional boundaries and confidentiality
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills with the ability to complete high quality and timely documentation
- Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills;
- Culturally competent in working with the public and individuals with various cultural and economic backgrounds and abilities
- Friendly, dependable and flexible team player with the ability to use tact and diplomacy in communication and adapt to changes in a busy work environment
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
EDUCATION/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelors Degree in Finance or related field or certified as a financial coach or high school diploma with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in social services and/or financial capability programs
ADITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a valid California Drivers License, liability insurance and access to an automobile in good working conditions
- Background and TB test Clearance
- Must be available to work infrequent nights or weekends as needed
