Headquartered in downtown Los Angeles, the AC Martin Group is seeking a hands-on and results-driven individual for an Accounting Manager role.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Accounting Manager will oversee approximately three to four team members consisting primarily of Project Accountants. The position reports directly to the Controller and will assist with various accounting activities including overseeing project accounting, assisting in the month-end close, and supporting other finance-related projects on an as-needed basis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in certain areas of general financial accounting, as directed by the Controller.
  • Work with project accountants in resolving various project accounting issues.
  • Continually train and mentor staff.
  • Assist with month-end journal entries (e.g., accruals, adjustments, consolidations, etc.).
  • Perform the required project accounting function for certain projects, as needed, including the preparation of invoices, updating ETCs, monitoring AR, processing sub consultant invoices for payment upon meeting established requirements, etc.
  • Work closely with Project Managers in identifying issues that may affect the financial performance of projects and to ensure projects are properly accounted for.
  • Review and track certain consultant invoices; releasing payment on a pay-when-paid basis.
  • Update project files and ensure proper consultant agreements are in place.
  • Complete monthly billings on various projects throughout the month.
  • Review WIP reports to ensure jobs are posting correctly.
  • Perform such other accounting or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time – quite often on short notice – by the Controller or CFO.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIES

Manage the accounting activities of up to four staff members as they perform routine project cost analysis and project accounting duties relating to the Company’s various architectural and design projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have strong experience in managing staff.
  • Must be highly skilled in use of Excel (i.e., use of macros, pivot tables, etc.) and MS-Word.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, is a must.
  • Must have a strong work ethic, including willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done, especially when meeting important deadlines.
  • Experience with Deltek Vision is preferred.
  • Must have a great and “can do” attitude.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration with emphasis in accounting is required. Seven to 10 years of accounting experience is required; emphasis in a “project accounting” environment is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are essential. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from architects, engineers, managers, project team members, consultants, vendors, and clients.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract 2-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

OTHER SKILLS

Knowledge of MS Office Suite along with prior working knowledge of integrated accounting systems such as BST, Deltek, Oracle, etc., is required. Must have excellent organizational skills and a positive attitude, demonstrating a positive company image. Additional experience in Project Forecasting and Project Focus. Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with internal staff, vendors, contractors, and clients. Demonstrated self-starter capable of taking initiative and requiring minimal supervision.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality.
