Job Location: Los Angeles, CA 90026 (Hybrid 2-3 times a week) Reports to (title): Controller Department: Fiscal Department Supervises: N/A Working title: Junior Accountant Classification: Non-Exempt Salary Range: Up to $26 per hour Status: Regular Hours/Week: 40+ hours/week Effective Date: September 2022 Type of Position: Full-time Revised Date: September 2022 POSITION SUMMARY The Junior Accountant will assist in the daily operation of the Fiscal Department and is responsible for day-to-day grants management, general ledger maintenance, Accounts Payable/Receivable related journal entries, financial reporting, and assisting in audit preparation. The Junior Accountant provides technical guidance and reviews the work of the accounting clerk and is under the general supervision and technical guidance of the Controller. ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES Utilize accounting software (ex: Abila MIP Fund Accounting) Maintain and update accounting records and files Maintain accurate record of Fund Balances Inspect account books for efficiency and accuracy Reconcile Bank, Credit Card, and Balance Sheet statement monthly and annually Provide technical guidance and review the work of the Accounting Clerk Analyze budgets and create expense reports Assist in budget preparation Recommend journal entries to the Controller Track daily and weekly cash needs Perform vendor analysis and issue 1099s Maintain and update fixed assets Prepare management (financials) and reports with analysis as needed Assist Controller in conducting month-end and year-end closures, preparing documentation for external auditors and more Assist in payroll process (will be cross trained) Apply new accounting policies and ensure compliance with rules and regulations Keep Controller well-informed of activities, pending issues, and potential problems MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Experience & Qualifications: 5+ years of accounting experience required, non-profit preferred Experience with Excel (advanced) Experience with AP, AR life cycle Proficiency in 10-key Great organizational skills Knowledge of compliance with all applicable federal, state, municipal laws, statues, or ordinances A self-starter who can work independently and as a team member GAAP Experience Education: Bachelor s Degree in accounting or related experience considered Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality of client and personnel information adhering to HIPAA, professional codes of conduct, State of CA regulations, Privacy Act, and UAII policies and procedures This position has access to sensitive information, and a breach in confidentiality will be grounds for disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination Communication/ Interpersonal Skills: Possess the ability to communicate with others in a courteous and professional manner Excellent oral and written communication skills Proficient in English Technology Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint Working knowledge of Google Suite (calendar, mail, drive, etc.) Accounting Software (MIP preferred) Other Skills: Demonstrate ability to exercise a high level of judgment, accept supervision, and exercise a high level of accuracy and organization Available and willing to travel as needed Available to work evening and weekend hours as needed Accuracy and attention to detail is a must Willingness to learn new skills and participate in training sessions relevant to the position POSITION PREFERENCES Experience working with the American Indian/Alaskan Native community Experience working with nonprofit organizations, community groups and performance-based government contracts.
