Our mission is to advance the rights of Indigenous Peoples, through the reparation of community and advocacy for healthy ecosystems to cultivate Indigenous education and culture in relation to ancestral lands.
Tzicatl Community Development Corporation is an Indian organization recognized by the US Department of Education.
A legally established, independent 501(c)(3) organization in the state of California, our purpose includes the advocacy for and promotion of Indigenous education.
Our bylaws reflect this purpose and our governing Board is majority Indigenous including tribally enrolled members of state and federally recognized tribal nations.
Tzicatl cultivates and supports Indigenous education as a key partner and sister organization to Semillas Sociedad Civil (Semillas), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Indigenous educational organization, which operates the Anahuacalmecac International University Preparatory of North America (Anahuacalmecac) charter school.
American Indian Resurgence (AIR) Initiative: Native Youth to College through Community Pathways.
In partnership with the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians, community-based organizations such as Semillas, and other local service providers, our project will leverage our twenty years of experience with providing Indigenous education in Los Angeles to impact 1000 students across tribal identities, districts, and schools.
Tzicatl will serve as a backbone organization, administrating, convening, and resourcing sustained outreach and educational service coordination to the region’s extraordinarily diverse Native communities.
Our goal is to empower the self-determination of Los Angeles area Native American middle and high school students and their families with access to high-quality and culturally relevant educational choices and services that will cultivate a living Indigenous education ecosystem; support their Native identities within our unique geographical, historical, and cultural context; and create pathways to high school achievement and college enrollment.
Key Functions
Tzicatl CDC is looking for a Parent and Community Outreach Coordinator who will be responsible for creating engaging American Indian youth and parents with the AIR Initiative.
This full-time position will be responsible for supporting the AIR Initiative with seamless execution of its digital and program platforms.
The Communications and Technology Coordinator will report directly to the Project Director and Programs Director, and work closely with the Youth Programs Coordinator.
The Parent & Community Outreach Coordinator leads parent and community engagement and outreach efforts within the Los Angeles region.
The goal of this position is to support American Indian/Alaska Native students and families’ improved access to choices in education through the AIR Initiative-Native Youth to College through Community Pathways (NY2CCP).
This position will provide information, engagement opportunities, and resources for students and parents designed to complement the student’s regular academic program, and that support college readiness, wellness through culture, leadership and tribal sovereignty, and related educational development services for families of these students.
Working closely with the AIR Initiative Project Director, Program Director and staff, the Parent & Community Outreach Coordinator will collaborate with our service partners, school administration, and parents to advance NY2C Community Pathways programs.
They are responsible for building and maintaining a strong relationship among parents through providing direct parent/family engagement and developing local community partnerships.
The PC&OC will conduct and manage parent engagement operations, including the parent wellness calls, facilitate parent workshops, parent webinars and provide parent monthly communications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and manage local family engagement and community outreach plans aligning with Native Youth to College through Community Pathways goals and priorities.
Work collaboratively with the parents, community groups, business leaders, government officials, and staff to meet the needs of the families we serve.
Participate regularly in planning, implementation, and evaluation meetings at school sites with NY2CCP staff, families, and partners.
Ensure a positive organizational image to the general public, stakeholders, and community.
Support with Federal Program Monitoring and record keeping.
Establish a calendar of engagement events, presentations, workshops, and NY2CCP Parents social media content.
Work with Communication and Technology Coordinator to create marketing flyers and notifications related to parent engagement network recruitment, policy and advocacy outreach, and parent engagement initiatives.
Collect and report on data required to evaluate engagement metrics.

Able to drive personal car to school sites or locations for work purposes.
May include sporadic travel.
Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Knowledge of GSuite including Chrome, Zoom, and project management software such as Asana, Monday.
Some knowledge of design software such as Canva.
Knowledge and use of Windows and Mac operating systems and software.
Use typical office equipment.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in social work, education, political science, public policy, or closely related field.
Experience working with volunteers, students, parents and community leaders.
At least 2 years in a position that developed or managed volunteers, facilitated community/family engagement, or facilitated community organizing is preferred.
