Production Manager

Position Summary: The Production Manager is a position designed to manage the production of COCA’s artistic and educational programming.

In addition to production duties, the position will serve as the key production stage manager for COCA PRESENTS productions.

The position reports to the Artistic Director of Theatre and works closely with the Artistic Directors of Dance, Associate Producer and the Technical Director.

Essential Functions: Serve as the Production Manager for an annual season consisting of over five Catherine B.

Berges Theatre mainstage shows, and over five Performance Lab productions.

Coordinating production meetings and timelines, as well as calendaring shared and rented facilities in conjunction with COCA’s artistic team and rental manager.

Managing and working within budgets for all COCA Presents artistic programming.

Managing artistic and production personnel, setting project deadlines for all COCA Presents productions.

Negotiating and acting as mediator in artistic and technical discussions.

Create, monitor and adhere to budgets.

Oversee production calendars and schedule, as well as stage management.

Read scripts and/or watch a dance work.

Assess requirements in regards to staffing, budgeting and design.

Serve as a production liaison between creative teams and administrative staff.

Serve as main production stage manager for COCA Presents productions throughout the season.

Mentor and oversee stage managers who work on smaller or “studio” productions in the COCA Presents season, like Improv Troupe and Dance Showcase.

In Conjunction with Technical Director: Scheduling and executing scenic and properties construction and stage management duties with student learners.

Collaborate on maintaining shops, equipment and storage areas.

Collaborate on staffing all load-ins and strikes including rigging, sets, lights, sound and special effects.

Education/Qualifications & Skill Specifications: Bachelor’s degree required or significant professional training or experience.

Experience reading ground plans, light plots and other theatrical specifications is a plus.

Experience and enthusiasm working in arts.

Ability to problem-solve, be flexible, imaginative and innovative.

Ability to take initiative in the development of ideas and programs.

Possess and demonstrate an excellent work ethic, positive attitude and sense of humor.

Comfortable working with students ages 10-18.

Willing and skilled collaborator in the production and design processes.

Computer skills especially Microsoft Office.

Experience with industry-specific software such as CAD programs, Lightwright, Qlab, or Isadora is a plus.

Physical Demands & Work Environment: Able to lift 40lb, climb ladders, and perform manual labor on an occasional, as-needed basis.

Must be willing and able to work flexible hours and days reflective of the dynamic schedule of a theatre, which includes evenings and weekends.
