The Homelessness Policy Research Institute is seeking an Managing Director to manage all day to day activities while advancing the Institute’s strategic vision to accelerate equitable and culturally informed solutions to homelessness in Los Angeles County by advancing knowledge and fostering transformational partnerships between research, policy and practice. The Managing Director will work closely with the Director to advance this vision and perform the responsibilities listed below. The ideal candidate will have either research or practice based experience in homelessness systems as well deep expertise and experience with diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the lead staff person for all HPRI activities, including rapid response research, RFP services, research translation and policy outreach, and convenings.

  • Supervise a Project Specialist and multiple graduate level research assistants; work closely with postdoctoral fellow on rapid response research.

  • Lead the development of HPRI’s biennial research agenda, working in close collaboration with multiple stakeholders including HPRI’s Race Equity Working Group.

  • Working under the guidance of the Race Equity Working Group, other relevant committees, and staff, establish equity frameworks for key areas of HPRI work, including: the translation of research materials, engaging providers and culturally specific organizations, and engagement strategies for equity-focused initiatives, including the Ad Hoc Committee on Black People Experiencing Homelessness. Engage people with lived experience into the work of HPRI.

  • Supervise the production of high-volume rapid response research. Establish and maintain close relationships with local policymakers to identify research needs and disseminate rapid response research to inform local policies and programs.

  • Serve as the primary point person for RFP services, including the development of RFPs, the distribution of funding opportunities, and the selection process for winning bids.

  • Provide leadership and day-to-day management for all HPRI committees and working groups, including the research committee, and the Race Equity Working Group, among others. Oversee the planning and production of HPRI research symposia and other events.

  • Help develop and strengthen policy outreach efforts, supporting the HPRI Director on policy outreach visits at the local, state, and national level.

Ability to interpret and apply policies/analyses/trends.
