Schedule: Thursday-Monday 2:00pm-10:30pm

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Youth Center serves youth up to the age of 24 who are currently at-risk of or experiencing homelessness.
The Youth Center offers services in an LGBTQ+ safe and affirming environment and serves as an entry point to assist youth making the transition from homelessness to housing.
Our services include meals, clothing, support groups, a charter high school, GED and college prep program, an employment preparation, training and placement program, case management, counseling, a crisis shelter and a transitional living program (TLP).
Our community-based programs include services for youth at-home, in school or in systems of care.
JOB SUMMARY: The Youth Care Specialist I provides services and support to youth ages 18 to 24 who are enrolled in our Rapid Rehousing Program.
This position provides a variety of supportive and case management services including mentoring, coaching, behavioral support, education, transportation and other services that address overall needs of residents.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1) Plan and execute outreach efforts for youth who might benefit from the Rapid Rehousing Program throughout Service Planning Area 4 (SPA 4) of Los Angeles;
2) Conduct outreach and interface with potential youth for Rapid Rehousing;
3) Assist in the development of outreach standards and best-practices;
4) Keep accurate and up-to-date outreach encounter statistics;
5) Complete intake process for youth into the Rapid Rehousing Program;
6) Provide weekly support to all youth in Rapid Rehousing Program through regular communication, educational and employment referrals, mental health services and additional resources;
7) Secure permanent, supportive housing for all youth in Rapid Rehousing Program;
8) Prepare monthly and quarterly reports as required by funder and program supervisors;
9) Complete general operational and administrative work such as compiling data, preparing reports, and drafting correspondence;
10) Organize and maintain program files and materials through data entry and database maintenance;
11) Follow up with program management staff to ensure reporting are completed on a timely basis;
12) Assist with special projects as directed by management staff;
13) Responsible for maintaining professional working relations and providing assistance to Associate Director and Rapid Rehousing Program staff;
14) Other duties as assigned;
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
1) Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people;
2) A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people;
3) A minimum of 2 years of experience with outreach and/or youth development work;
4) A minimum of 1 year of experience in a professional office setting;
5) Experience working with youth in a youth development setting and knowledgeable of the principles of Positive Youth Development; demonstrated ability in engaging youth and facilitating workshops;
6) Self-motivated, energetic, flexible and the ability to work in a team environment;
7) Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational, detail and interpersonal skills;
8) Excellent computer skills and knowledge including word processing, database operations, spreadsheets, and other software systems;
9) Access to reliable transportation and the ability to be insured;
10) Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
