Our underwriting segments include middle markets, large accounts and captives.

About this Position

As an essential member of our Business Development team, you will be charged with growing a profitable book of business while raising PMA’s profile in the West. This position can be based in either Southern or Northern California.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key brokers and clients in the region.
  • Develop, execute and monitor broker-specific new business strategies and plans.
  • Meet monthly/annual production goals in order to grow a profitable book of business for our middle market (CMU) and large account (RMS) segments.
  • Effectively communicate to the marketplace PMA’s broad scope of capabilities not only in CMU and RMS, but also in our TPA and Captive segments.
  • Evaluate key performance indicators (hit ratios, quote/bind ratios, etc.) and adjust marketplace engagement accordingly.
  • Develop and manage new and renewal client base in territory
  • Develop cross-selling strategies for each segment by broker
  • Maintain and update broker profiles, prospect lists, and target lists
  • Address client and broker issues and concerns proactively, timely and effectively
  • Demonstrate commitment to Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, and apply knowledge of compliance policies and procedures, standards and laws applicable to job responsibilities in the performance of work.

Job Requirements:

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of key casualty brokers in the West.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years commercial insurance experience with advanced knowledge of primary casualty coverage (GL, WC, AL).
  • CPCU designation preferred.
  • Sales/negotiation experience with proven track record of successful results.
  • Self-starter with minimal supervision required.
  • Ability to effectively create and work with remote teams, across geography and function.
  • Ability to travel throughout the region; valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
