Histology Technician

Responsibilities
As a key member of our Translational Pathology Core Laboratory (TPCL), you will contribute to an exceptional team focused on facilitating biomedical research efforts requiring remnant human tissue samples and histology services for both human and animal tissues.

This role will involve serving as a technical interface for histology services between the TPCL and the UCLA scientific research community.

You will process formalin-fixed specimens; embed formalin-fixed specimens in paraffin and snap-frozen specimens in OCT and section samples (paraffin and frozen sections).

You will also be responsible for ensuring the procurement of fresh remnant human tissue samples; staining (H&E, special, immune histochemical and immunofluorescence); preparing solutions; maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory equipment; performing quality control procedures; evaluating quality of sections/stains; and maintaining records.

Qualifications
We’re seeking a highly detail-oriented and meticulous professional with:
ASCP certified in histology
Expertise in the use of microtome, tissue processor, tissue embedder, and microcentrifuge
In-depth knowledge of all tissue preparation and processing protocols for frozen and formalin-fixed paraffin embedded samples
Thorough understanding of infection-control procedures
Proficiency with tissue dissection procedures
Exceptional communication, interpersonal and prioritization skills
Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team
Ability to effectively interact with researchers and clinicians on a scientific level
