Risk Control Services is an integral part of PMA Companies success and this new position will contribute to raising PMA’s profile in the West by providing first-in-class risk control service and expertise.

This position can be based in either Southern or Northern California and will report directly to the Vice President of Risk Control Service.

The Strategic Risk Control Consultant works in a team environment with the Regional Vice President, the Sr.

Vice President for TPA services, Underwriting and Claims while carrying out individual service management responsibilities.Company OverviewPMA Companies, an Old Republic Company, founded in1915, is a diversified insurance company offering workers’ compensation, casualty insurance, captives, and TPA and risk services.

Our underwriting segments include Middle Markets, Large Accounts and Captives.The Risk Control Strategic Consultant will apply risk control and risk management techniques in the selection, management and retention of clients.

The Risk Control Strategic Consultant will focus on evaluating client exposures and controls and developing plans to improve client performance.

A greater portion of the Risk Control Strategic Consultant workload will include more complex and multi-location clients.

The Risk Control Strategic Consultant effectively and consistently manages and delivers risk control services for assigned clients through the department’s advanced consulting strategies and is comfortable designing and managing the delivery of Risk Control services following a defined service plan.

The Risk Control Strategic Consultant integrates multiple services into planning.

The Risk Control Strategic Consultant can be assigned regional and corporate projects and assignments at the direction of the Vice President of Risk Control Services and the Regional Vice President including supporting regional marketing efforts and educating agents and brokers about Risk Control capabilitiesPrimary Responsibilities: Evaluate existing and prospective clients through the risk management assessment for all business segments and lines of insurance coverage that may include workers compensation, commercial auto, general liability, and propertyWork in multiple industries that may include healthcare, manufacturing, wholesale, public entities, and higher education.Plan, coordinate and deliver consultative services based on client’s actual and potential loss exposures and meet the department service management guidelinesWork closely with Underwriting and Claims to service accounts and actively participate in the account management processUse analytics to support plans and recommendations, and to help show correlation of the service strategy to client improvement through the stewardship processDeliver effective presentations to all levels of an organization on an individual basis or as part of a teamManage a workload weighted towards multi-location insured and TPA clients including captive programs Develop customized service plans and managing service delivery including preparing large account service instructions for multi-location risksCommunicate progress to the team through verbal and written methods per department policies and to the Risk Control Manager during workload reviewsMeet all requirements under the department Service Review (QA) policyRequirements:Five years of risk control, risk management, or safety experience preferred.Experience in healthcare, manufacturing, and public entity preferred.Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required.Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate in Risk Management designation preferred.Ability to understand how an organization operates through research, observation, and talking with client contacts.Ability to translate understanding into communications with clients, brokers, and colleagues.Excellent verbal, writing, and presentation skills.Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize assignments.Demonstrate strong client service management and consulting skills.

Experience with business analytics and competent in understanding how to analyze loss reports, develop trends, and identify root causes of loss.Competent with MS Office products.Knowledge of relevant standards such as OSHA and DOT.Willingness to travel by car and air within the Pacific territory and some overnight travel.Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable MVR.Must be able to navigate through client locations in a safe manner including:Ascent and descend ladders and stairs to observe and evaluate client exposures.Walking in interior and exterior environments where hot and cold exposures may.
