Job Title: Independent Living Specialist (ILS)Work Hours/Shifts: *Will include Weekend shifts*Work Schedule: Full Time/Part time/ Per DiemPrimary Job Function:The independent Living Specialist is the treatment team member who is responsible for providing direct care to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of the participants through direct and indirect physical and verbal interaction. The ILS supports the participants in their development of basic living and social skills. Duties are performed under the direct supervision of the Clinical Site Supervisor.Reports to:Clinical Site SupervisorQualifications:* B.A. in Psychology/Sociology/Related degree (preferred)AND/OR* 2 years experience working with youth* Interested in working with young adults 18-25 in a residential capacity* Ability and willingness to demonstrate empathy and concern with a high risk population* CA Driver’s license and clean driving record* Must pass TB test* Willing to become CPR/First Aid Certified and get flu shotDaily Duties:* Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of participants in the program* Provide supportive mentoring and guidance* Ensure a safe, clean, organized, living environment.* Supervise as well as participate in household cleaning and maintenance* Assist participants in creating daily goals and action steps every morning* Follow appropriate medication protocols* Participate in ongoing development and supervision of milieu meetings, activities, groups, clubs, and outings* Promote and assist participants’ with self-help skills in the areas of eating, hygiene, and maintenance in personal/communal space* Provide day-to-day supervision, including assistance with activities of daily living, personal care, planned activities, and school/work* Develop and maintain positive relationships with participant and team* Communicate with therapist and treatment team on a regular basis* Drive participants to appointments and activities* Assist participant growth and development in social, emotional, physical, vocational, recreational, and cultural arenas* Assist participants in developing social, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills* Work alongside treatment team in developing and implementing behavior management strategies for participants, including setting and enforcing limits for behavior* Use de-escalation skills in managing crises (in accordance to OPI crisis procedures)* Monitor participants’ ongoing needs; communicate with treatment team to ensure that these needs are met* Supervise all OPI activities of the residents at all times while they are in the program* Conduct room searches, drug tests, and breathalyzer analysis* Maintain appropriate records and documentation as required by JCAHO* Attend and participate in all required meetings and in-service training sessions in order to develop and maintain skills* Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times* Secure TB, First Aid and CPR certification in a timely manner* Must be willing to be trained in Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT)OPI is an Equal Employment Opportunity EmployerThe employer will consider for employment qualified applicants with Criminal Histories in a manner consistent with the Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring
