Electro-Mechanical Controls Lead

The Electro-Mechanical Controls Lead is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of electrical, mechanical, and PLC equipment. The position is responsible for maintaining all production and facilities equipment, electronic and controls systems, and instruments operating in the Juanita’s Foods Plant. The EM Lead will be the SME on all PLC/HMI/Instrument related items and will help with the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of this equipment. The Lead will also be responsible for the Maintenance Team on 2nd Shift during the plant’s high output season.

Job Requirements:

Preventative Maintenance and Troubleshooting (50% of Time)

  • Complete assigned PMs and WOs with complete thoroughness and report all parts used and any findings;
  • PM’s/WO’s assigned will primarily consist of electrical/controls issues but if required mechanical work will also be assigned;
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems and perform immediate repairs as needed;
  • Understand the basics of electrical control circuits, VFDs, drives, controls, and networking; Respond to radio calls throughout the plant to assist with safety, quality, and production needs;
  • Work with the maintenance team and other department leads/managers on any issues that affect safety, quality, and production;
  • Diagnose, test, repair, and adjust AC/DC systems, industrial controllers, (analog and digital), and wiring up to 480V;
  • Read and work from electrical schematics, diagrams, and drawings;
  • Able to use RS Logix 5000, 500, and 5 software, along with ControlLogix, and any new PLC systems for machine troubleshooting purposes;
  • Use a multimeter and work within the control panels as necessary to perform diagnoses on  machines;
  • Work with admins within the maintenance department on parts needed to complete PM/WO;
  • Install and calibrate process-control instruments as needed throughout the facility.
  • Take backup copies of the programs on a monthly basis to ensure plants’ ability to continue to run in the event of a major incident.

Process/Project Improvement (30% of Time)

  • Work with management on PLC initiatives to test and validate process improvement opportunities throughout the plant; Take initiative on digging into problems with the way the plant operates from a PLC/Controls standpoint and share findings with management to help weed out problem areas;
  • Perform PLC and HMI changes to enhance the functioning of systems;
  • Work with management on capital projects on an as-needed basis and provide input on possible issues with design and layout;
  • Fine-tune and calibrate equipment for better process control.

Supervision (20% of the Time)

  • Provide leadership and supervision for a team of 3-4 on 2nd Shift operations during peak season; Work with leads, peers, and upper management;
  • Involvement and support of equipment and services vendors; Involvement in job walks as needed

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Allen Bradley Control Logix proficiency, training, experience (5 years preferred).
  • Experience, training, and proficiency with AB FactoryTalk (3 years preferred).Electrical Systems knowledge and experience (3 years preferred).
  • Robotics experience (3 years).
  • Mechanical knowledge (3 years preferred).
  • Experience with AB AssetCentre a plus.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
  • Fluent in Spanish is a plus

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Formal education in Electronics, Maintenance, Controls (preferred).
