The Role

As the Head of Global Compensation, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership on designing and implementing global broad-based programs. This will include leading compensation initiatives across the global organization and advising Senior Management, HR Partners, and business leaders in developing competitive and equitable compensation programs that align with a global compensation philosophy.

In addition, you will maintain the global positioning and compensation infrastructure to support the attraction and retention of employees. As the Head of Global Compensation, you will also evaluate external trends to ensure compensation programs remain competitive while remaining cost-effective and in compliance with legal requirements. This role reports directly to the HR Operations Leader and will manage as staff of two Executives.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Manages the worldwide planning, design, implementation, communication, and delivery of the company’s compensation and recognition programs and practices that are rolled out across the globe (base pay, annual bonus, long term incentives, sales incentives, training, tools, processes, and governance)
Supports the Head of Operations on executive compensation strategy and design and the creation of Compensation Committee materials
Provides thought leadership on the strategic direction and design of the global compensation and recognition programs as well as drive changes necessary to move towards best practices
Partners with and influences business leaders, functional partners and HR partners to design, evaluate and recommend tailored compensation programs that align with best practices and the company’s philosophy
Manages, leads, and develops a team of compensation executives and professionals
Partner on improving the annual year end compensation review process, including the global merit budget and annual incentive plan payments
Represents compensation on M&A inquiries and provides the necessary resources for due diligence review and post-close integration with Assurant’s compensation structure
Serves as advisor on compensation matters relating to global talent mobility
Provides leadership and direction around participation in market data initiatives and preparing global competitive benchmarking analysis
Remains current with market trends and practices among competitors to inform design of compensation programs
Assesses costs and return on investment of all compensation programs, and recommends innovative improvements to programs
Leads the development of effective communication and training programs to educate and create awareness of compensation programs with executives, managers, and employees
Ensures all global compensation programs meet the local legal and compliance requirements of the locations in which the programs exist
Partner with the Global Inclusion and Diversity Leader on overall pay equity, quantitative research, strategy and identifying equity gaps

Education and experience:

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, economics, mathematics, statistics, organizational psychology, or human resources
10+ years of progressive levels of responsibility in Compensation, Rewards, and/or other HR roles
5+ years of experience building, leading, and managing a team of compensation professionals within a fast-paced, high-growth global environment
Working knowledge of applicable Federal and State regulations
Experience as a company fiduciary preferred
Excellent communication (written and verbal), organization, coaching, interpersonal and influencing skills.

Compliance and Employee Relations with working knowledge of employment laws.
Proven ability to effectively lead, coach and develop a high performing team.

Job location, hours, travel:

Typical days and hours of work are: The role will be based in our Los Angeles office Monday – Thursday, 9:00am – 6:00pm with the flexibility to work remote on Friday and one other weekday (as agreed upon with direct supervisor).
Some out-of-state travel may be required in order to implement strategic HR initiatives with various team members at our multiple office locations

Compensation

The annual base salary for this position is in the range of $200,000-$300,000. This position also is eligible for benefits and discretionary bonus. Ultimately, the salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, business sector, and geographic location, among other criteria.
