Essential Functions and Primary Duties

As a CBIZ MHM controllership consultant, you will help our medium and large sized clients improve their companies in areas like:

  • Streamline their accounting processes both manually and through technology
  • Helping clients structure and monitor their month end close and reporting process
  • Identifying and reporting on key metrics and FP&A and assisting in strategizing to improve them
  • Coaching and advising owners and client staff on what financial statements can tell them
  • Preventing fraud by evaluating and improving their fraud prevention controls
  • Improving their business by helping improve efficiencies, metrics and fraud controls
  • Assisting clients in effective hiring and coaching of staff
  • Accounting analysis, corrections and improvement
  • Strategize and solve various business obstacles preventing the client from achieving their goals
  • Budgeting, forecasting, cash flow projections and other financial modeling
  • Occasional interim controllership service 
  • Perform and manage a wide variety of controllership and management consulting projects that leverage your strong controllership skills, analytical skills, technology skills and interpersonal skills.  
  • Perform various controllership related assessments and create client deliverables that support findings and recommendations.
  • Streamline accounting and close processes.
  • Successfully manage projects to budget.
  • Manage others on projects as appropriate.
  • Keep your skill sets current with our internal training as well as outside training as needed. 
  • Successfully Interact well with clients and the greater CBIZ team.
  • Additional responsibilities as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a Controller or equivalent strongly preferred
  • Four year degree with emphasis in accounting, finance, economics or business preferred
  • Prefer but not required CPA, CMA, CFE other relevant credentials.
  • Experience in biotech, technology, real estate and light manufacturing all a plus
  • Experience with accounting systems ranging from QuickBooks to Sage and Microsoft 
  • Experience with QBO and the use of QBO with additional apps are a plus 
  • Experience assisting (from a Controllership perspective) system related projects
  • A track record of being highly consultative and also hands on in past positions
  • Ability to travel, mostly within California but on occasion outside of CA, as needed

Minimum Qualifications Required

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • At least 3 years of accounting experience.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Must maintain current required licenses and certifications relevant to field of expertise.
  • Proficient use of applicable technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of the organization, both internally and externally.
