CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION

PAYROLL SPECIALIST

SCOPE: Perform payroll and accounting functions

SUPERVISION: Receive general supervision from the Controller

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (These are examples of the types of duties that may be performed.

Perform a variety of payroll and accounting related functions
Verify, process and transmit agency payrolls
Process payroll transactions
Process wage garnishments
Prepare and maintain various payroll reports and schedules
Prepare payroll reconciliations and reports for various audits
Prepare and post journal entries
Process manual payroll checks as needed
Responsible for various external quarterly and year end reporting requirements
Maintain and update employee benefit accruals
Generate various notifications to employees regarding payroll deadlines and benefit accruals
Verify and audit health benefit costs
Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to payroll transactions
Bank reconciliations
Report annual medical benefit costs to third party payroll vendor for W-2 reporting
Assist in distribution of W-2 and 1099 forms
Coordinate with Human Resources Department on various employee and payroll issues
Interact with third party payroll vendor
Verify, code and process invoices for payment
Provide training to employees on use of time & attendance program
Respond to and resolve employee payroll questions and issues
Maintain payroll files and records
Perform other functions as assigned
EMPLOYMENT GUIDELINES:

Knowledge:
Accounting principles and procedures
Competency in Microsoft Word and Outlook
Advance Microsoft Excel skills
Experience with ADP preferred
Skills:
Strong computer skills
Excellent customer service skills
Good follow through
Attention to detail
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must work effectively with people from a variety of cultures
Education & Experience:
Associates Degree in a related field
Five years of payroll related experience

Option: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field can be substituted for two years of experience
This position is non-exempt.
