Founded in 2004, Brilliant Corners provides innovative housing and housing-related services to California’s most vulnerable individuals, with an emphasis on those transitioning from, or at risk of, homelessness or institutionalization.

We develop, own and manage multi-family supportive housing and licensed residential care homes, and implement a broad array of scattered-site, one-on-one supportive housing, and clinical case management programs through partnerships with developmental services, homeless services, veterans’ services, and health care sectors.

WHAT IS A CHIEF STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS OFFICER?

The Chief Strategic Partnerships Officer (CSPO) works closely with the Chief Executive Officer and other members of the Executive and Leadership Teams and leads Brilliant Corners’ (BC) partnership strategy and relationship-building work across the government, philanthropic and private sectors.

The CSPO helps design and implement BC’s regional, state and national partnership strategy and fundraising as the organization scales impact and advocates for values-driven policies and practical administrative reforms at the system level.

The CSPO is responsible for sustaining and expanding BC’s key funder, government, philanthropic, intermediary and community partnerships, informing partners of BC’s strategic goals and value propositions across multiple housing and social service sectors, wherever housing and services come together.

Working at the critical juncture of BC’s capacity and mission impact, the CSPO oversees BC’s Fund Development Department as well as its new Policy and Advocacy Department, creating a virtuous circle where community impact generates the policy changes and investments that lead to sustained results.

Guided by BC’s values, service delivery models and unique system-level or “intermediary” role designing and implementing scalable housing solutions for vulnerable populations, the CSPO guides BC’s community relations strategy at the federal, state, regional and local levels.

The CSPO is a lead voice for the policies, funding, programs, and cross-sector, system-level reforms we believe are necessary to achieve housing stability and housing justice for all Californians.

Informed by an equity lens, the CSPO passionately advocates for resources nonprofit organizations and the nonprofit workforce needs for sustained results.

The CSPO will identify and develop funding sources for new initiatives to support the organizations capacity, scaling within existing partnerships, expansion to serve new communities, and aligning fund development with the organization’s financial sustainability goals.

Given BC’s unique intermediary roles in Los Angeles County and other communities, this position is an opportunity to facilitate philanthropic support for collaborative, multi-agency, public-private partnerships that enhance system-level responses to the housing and homelessness crises for vulnerable Californians.

This is a high-level leadership position focused less on day-to-day government contracts and philanthropic grants management than on cultivating and maintaining strategic partnerships–both public and philanthropic–across the multiple social service and housing sectors where BC can have the greatest impact.

Examples of current strategic partnerships include the Conrad N.

Hilton Foundation, the United Way of Greater Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, the Los Angeles County CEO’s Office Homelessness Initiative, Tipping Point Community, and the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

• Masters Degree or equivalent, and 10 years of experience in nonprofit, government, philanthropic or similarly relevant leadership roles.

• Industry and/or disciplinary experience and professional networks in one or more relevant areas, such as affordable and supportive housing, homelessness services, human services, etc.

• Detailed working knowledge of California’s affordable housing and homelessness response sectors strongly preferred.

• Possesses a deep understanding of the intersection of the nonprofit, government and philanthropic sectors, with the ability to articulate nonprofit challenges and opportunities and to make a strong case for continued investments.

• Experience serving on boards, committees, advisory bodies and/or presenting at conferences, public hearings and similar forums preferred.

• Drive to scale proven solutions or to develop new and innovative ones and must be able to model and inspire out-of-the-box thinking.

• Demonstrated leadership skills, including strategic planning, prioritization and delegation, and leading and mentoring teams.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as public speaking and presentation skills, strong ability to read, analyze and interpret complex business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or Federal, Governmental and Local regulations.

• Strong ability to write proposals, reports, business correspondence, policies and procedures.

• Experience designing and driving policy, strategy, and programs for change.

• Highly skilled at elevating the public profile of an organization while building strong, strategic partnerships and driving growth and change.

• Proven public policy record, relationship-building expertise, and ability to lead and scale profitable social organizations.

• High emotional intelligence and superior interpersonal and relationship skills.

• Ability to think creatively and strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to tell the Brilliant Corners story to varied audiences, from “elevator pitches” to “deep dive” and a firm grasp of Brilliant Corners’ mission, vision, values, culture and operations.
