ADL ( Anti-Defamation League ) is the leading anti-hate organization in the world.

Founded in 1913 in response to an escalating climate of antisemitism and bigotry, its essential mission hasn’t changed in more than 100 years: to stop the defamation of the Jewish people and to secure justice and fair treatment to all.

Today, ADL continues to fight all forms of hate with the same vigor and passion.

ADL is the first call when acts of antisemitism occur.

A global leader in exposing extremism, delivering anti-bias education, and fighting hate online, ADL’s ultimate goal is a world in which no group or individual suffers from bias, discrimination or hate.

ADL’s CEO and National Director, Jonathan Greenblatt—an accomplished leader and entrepreneur in the corporate, public, and nonprofit sectors—was recruited to the organization in July 2015.

He has injected new energy and brought a bold vision to the agency.

Under Jonathan’s leadership, ADL is transforming itself, upgrading its capabilities, leveraging innovation, building partnerships, and pioneering new horizons.

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Western Division Communications Manager role plays a pivotal role in amplifying ADL’s voice and serving as the lead manager for coordinated Divisional public relations and media relations outreach and opportunities.

This role directly supports the Division’s regional leadership and Vice President to implement media and marketing strategies that position ADL and ADL staff as experts and thought leaders in the Division’s local markets.

The Division Communications Manager works closely with regional teams to ensure fresh and updated Regional website content and a coordinated cadence on social media channels focusing on upcoming activities, current work, and successes.

ADL Divisions are set geographic areas that include multiple ADL offices and usually involving multiple states.

ADL’s Division structure includes 25 regions that are grouped into five geographic areas – Northeast, Midwest/Mid-Atlantic, South, Central and West.

The Western Division includes eight ADL Regions.

Responsibilities

Primary
Media Relations Implement a proactive divisional media relations strategy, working with media to develop authentic news stories highlighting ADL’s issues, leaders, and thought leadership.

Respond in real time to media inquiries and interview requests within the Division for Divisional and Regional team members, escalating to the national Communications team as needed.

Coordinate interviews and media response on breaking new issues.

Proactively identify media opportunities and pitch news stories and features to the media Leverage existing media relationships and cultivate new local market contacts Monitor internet and print news, and information portals for relevant coverage.

Public Relations Outreach Identify key public relations outreach goals and actionable tactics for the Division to amplify ADL’s voice.

Collaborate across departments (Education, Civil Rights, Development and Regional) to identify and cultivate soft news opportunities to raise public awareness of ADL issues, programs and individuals.

Create content for press releases, byline articles and keynote presentations Social Media and Online Content Implement a proactive divisional social media strategy and guidance, working with regional team members to engage audiences across divisional and Regional social media channels.

Coordinate with the national Social Comms team to amplify the ADL’s national social channels and elevate Regional social channels to a national level as appropriate.

Coordinate with Regional team members to ensure that Regional websites are regularly updated with current work, upcoming events, and message-focused content that compliments divisional, regional and organizational goals.

Monitor, analyze and communicate media and social to DVP and Regional Directors on a quarterly basis Contribute to Divisional strategy meetings and stay current on internal positioning and substantive external developments in ADL’s mission areas.

Qualifications

Skills
Must be a strong communicator, both written and verbal, with effective presentation skills.

A familiarity with the current media landscape and knowledge of market news outlets, reporters, and influencers is essential, Ability to think creatively to identify opportunities to connect ADL’s mission, values, and priority projects to the current cultural moment and develop creative narrative frames to impact public engagement and discourse, specifically in local markets.

Demonstrated ability to write persuasive materials including talking points, op-eds, press releases, and messaging documents on deadline.

Copyediting skills and knowledge of AP Style guidelines a must.

Understanding of and demonstrated experience utilizing Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and other social media platforms for outreach and engagement essential.

Knowledge of issues of concern to ADL preferred Comfort in working with colleagues remotely across the country essential.

Tech-savvy required.

Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and comfort learning new technology.

Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task to complete projects on deadline in a fast-paced environment.

Work Experience
Four to six years of professional media or public relations experience required.

Solid media contacts in at least one divisional media market required.

Professional record of successful media placements and familiarity with Jewish press preferred.

Agency or nonprofit experience preferred
Education
Bachelor’s degree in public relations or a communications-related field, or equivalent experience, required.
