Vice President, Content

The Role

Join us to reinvent radio for a connected world! TuneIn is seeking an experienced Vice President, Content to lead programming and engagement for our content platform. In addition to managing current owned & operated initiatives, this executive will be responsible for building and collaborating on a long-term content vision & strategy for our freemium offering. You will work with all our global content partners (CNN, BBC, NPR, Univision, MSNBC, ESPN, NHL, Cumulus) and distribution partnerships (Amazon, Google, Sonos, Tesla, Bose, Roku, Apple and many more).

This role will require an individual comfortable and adept with building strategy and driving incremental value across many content partners. We need someone who can roll-up their sleeves (think big + pay attention to detail) with the ability to be more tactical to identify problems that are impacting content growth.

What You Will Do

  • Developbusiness modeling process to evaluate existing and prospective content partnerships to determine the cost of content per listening hour and value across all TuneIn content genres
  • Evaluate all existing content deals to determine the best path to maximize value in the near term and long-term strategy for renegotiation
  • Analyze content trends, identifying & evaluating emerging audio content, and acquiring audio content
  • Measure and improve the breadth, depth, and timeliness of content to drive best on platform retentiveness for TuneIn owned and operated content
  • Work with the business intelligence team to evolve a dashboard to measure TuneIn’s third-party content investments and owned & operated content.
  • Study TuneIn’s current platform audience to measure and set listening goals and targets for each of the five audio formats (broadcast, news, sports, music, podcasts)
  • Track and maintain weekly, monthly and quarterly targets of prospective content overall annual investment, per genre, and each individual partnership within each general
  • Drive prospective M&A strategy to identify and evaluate targets that will help to accelerate our content goals to improve on-demand/podcast experience, terrestrial content syndication, and best-in-class content partner tool set
  • Identify, recruit, and hire best-in-class and passionate content individuals to expand TuneIn’s content team
  • Develop a strategy for localized premium targets to close partners in top twenty TuneIn markets to enhance the value proposition in international territories
  • Serve as the main liaison to collaborate with the content, sales, marketing, analytics, design, engineering, product, and finance teams to drive TuneIn content initiatives, and help generate incremental revenue sponsorship opportunities from TuneIn’s existing strategic content investments
  • Work with content operations and marketing to develop and implement editorial plans to highlight relevant content through browse banners, push notifications, featuring within a specific format genre
  • Monitor competition closely to assess the competitive advantages and disadvantages of other audio platforms against TuneIn
  • Proactively communicate to TuneIn’s 200+ content partners to make them aware of TuneIn platform benefits, tools, emerging third-party distribution partners

What We Are Looking For

  • 10+ years experience in content acquisition for a large media and entertainment business at the intersections of media/entertainment and technology, with 4+ years of experience at the Director/Senior Director level. 1+ years of experience at a private, startup company
  • Ability to analyze and draw conclusions from data, with experience partnering with finance to evaluate existing and prospective content partnerships and deals to maximize value in both short-term and long-term strategy (cost of content per listening hour and value across all TuneIn content genres)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment, including collaborating actively and effectively on multidisciplinary teams and external partnerships
  • Can-do attitude and a strong bias to action. Always seeking to improve through change and innovation
  • Ability to set measurable goals for the team and reliably execute on them
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to address both business and technical audiences, and experience presenting to executives/decision-makers
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapid growth environment, with the ability to show flexibility and agility to pivot on a daily basis from strategic to tactical

Skills That Are a Plus

  • Knowledge and passion for the audio space and the news, talk, sports, and music formats
  • Experience with both digital audio and subscription service
  • Proficiency in Excel, Keynote, and PowerPoint
  • Experience establishing and managing connected device partnerships
