Manager, Product Design

Honey is a fast-growing startup based in Los Angeles. Our online shopping platform offers users a smarter way to shop. We are helping millions save when they shop online, and we’re hiring! We are actively seeking a Product Design Manager to join the Product Design Team in our Los Angeles office.

About the Role

You’ll be expected to think holistically about complex systems, empathize with customers, and understand business goals to enable a team to create compelling and effective user experiences. As a design manager, you will also act as a coach and mentor to designers on your team and be a thoughtful advocate for their careers.

What You’ll Do

  • Hire, recruit and maintain the top design talents.
  • Collaborate with Product Directors, Engineer Managers and other product division partners to identify and frame division wide user and business problems. Help your team in quarterly planning.
  • Set up and enforce team wide experience (UX & UI) principles.
  • Build and maintain team wide processes to streamline day-to-day activities.
  • Proactively give feedback to your team’s projects and career growth.
  • Regularly seek feedback from your team and partners.
  • Build rapport with other departments and communicate to remove blockers if needed.
  • Conduct 1 on 1, goal setting and performance reviews to grow your team.
  • Collaborate with other Design Managers, Leads and Head of Design on pushing the design department to the next level.
  • Manage your team’s culture and health.
  • Collect data qualitatively and quantitatively to share both team wide wins and learnings.

About You

  • You have 8+ years’ experience shipping products used by millions of customers.
  • You can drive your team to solve challenging user experience problems with delightful solutions.
  • You view team member’s growth as the most exciting achievement.
  • You’re a great champion when communicating up.
  • You’re a great diplomat when communicating across.
  • You’re a great coach when communicating down.
  • You have enough business acumen to decipher business asks and drive team solutions to achieve the goals.
  • You have enough engineering knowledge, especially around mobile platforms (iOS & Android), to ensure feasible team solutions.
  • You have a breadth of essential design knowledge from user research to prototype.
  • You’re fluent in modern screen design tools like Figma and be able to get your hands dirty when needed.
  • Lives and breathes design!

  • Experience managing a team that ships e-commerce or fintech products.
  • Experience managing a team that ships consumer facing products to millions of users.
