The primary purpose of this position is to work with considerable latitude, utilizing broad limits of authority requiring a high degree of technical complexity and extensive knowledge and experience in related underwriting products as well as business acumen in managing the underwriting process within the highest level of authority. Manages a team of underwriting or underwriting support employees.
What you’ll be doing:
- Achieves customer satisfaction and service standards for all retail brokers assigned to team and/or self;
- Establish a culture of professionalism and team cohesion that everyone can be proud of;
- Ensures team meets or exceeds set production/premium goals and departmental guidelines;
- Identifies strengths and weaknesses in current procedures and recommends changes as needed;
- Makes recommendations on underwriting policy and pricing strategy to management;
- Provides training and coaching on marketing skills and broker management;
- Provides career planning and performance feedback to ensure proper staff development by coaching, motivating, and building bench strength; reviews and evaluates personnel performance.
What we’re looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred;
- 5-10 years of inland marine and property underwriting;
- Demonstrated aptitude to manage people and projects;
- Proven ability to make sound underwriting decisions;
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously;
- Ability to achieve business goals and objectives;
- Demonstrated sales, marketing, and relationship management skills.
