The Position: Arch Re Casualty Facultative (ARCF) is a production underwriting team spanning the United States and Canada focused on developing strong, mutually-beneficial business relationships with primary insurance company underwriters and reinsurance brokers. An ARCF Underwriting Director is a motivated, analytical and detail-oriented professional. An Underwriting Director participates in managing the Arch Re portfolio of individual risk and program business in the US Casualty reinsurance marketplace. The position targets several lines of business requiring the utilization of numerous Facultative pricing practices and negotiation skills. In addition to having strong analytical skills and experience in Microsoft Excel, an Underwriting Director is eager to interact internally within a team setting, as well as engage extensively with brokers and direct clients. An Underwriting Director is also open to learning actuarial techniques, contract wording specifics and database analysis. The position reports directly to the Managing Director of Arch Re Casualty Facultative and requires 20%-30% travel. Job Responsibilities: Must be based in the LA areaDevelop direct client and broker relationships at all levelsBuild and manage submission flowUnderwrite and negotiate profitable Casualty Facultative transactions, both new and renewalExecute preliminary analysis of potential business opportunities and swiftly determine profitability and acceptability based on corporate guidelines and standardsPerform all aspects of the underwriting analysis process from preparing submission data provided by the client/broker for pricing to producing underwriting files, reports, presentations, referrals, etcPrepare reinsurance documents (broker slips, binders, certificates, endorsements, bordereaus, etc.) and ensure all file documentation complies with underwriting, authority, and audit standardsProactively and independently seek out previously undetected, current, or future exposures and market trends and propose and implement robust, comprehensive solutionsAct as liaison and point of contact for both operational and underwriting inquiries from both new and tenured employees Required Skills/Experience: Bachelors degree (ideally with a degree/major in Economics, Business, Finance, or Accounting) or equivalent training requiredAdditional industry-specific study and designations (CPCU, ARe) a plus Desired Skills/Experience: Proven ability to work as part of a highly productive teamStrong work ethic and hustle-factorIndependent and innovative thinker with creative problem-solving skills Demonstrated customer-service focus coupled with strong negotiation skillsStrong underwriting acumen including an understanding of Casualty exposures, reinsurance structures, policy forms, and claims/actuarial conceptsExcellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to generate reports and presentations for senior management using an array of data sourcesSound Computer/Technology skillsDesire for continued learning Education: 5-10 years Casualty insurer or reinsurer underwriting experience The Company: Arch Re is a well-capitalized, leading diversified insurer that focuses on supplying significant capacity to the global reinsurance marketplace.
