Technical Development Manager

Primary Purpose:This position is primarily responsible for managing the Low Carbon Resources Research, Development, & Demonstration (RD&D) program at SoCal Gas, which includes developing and managing research plans, managing project managers, coordinating with various universities, national labs, and other public agencies to advance research into Low Carbon Resources technologies.

In addition, this position will provide technical assistance for Strategic Planning Initiatives.

Serves as an industry expert and represents SoCal Gas in key business relationships and industry forums related to energy technologies.

Manages annual budget of approximately $6.0-$10.0 million.

Duties and Responsibilities: * Manages Low Carbon Resources (LCR) RD&D program for SoCal Gas; represents SoCal Gas at various industry forums; selects and manages demonstration projects for key LCR technologies at SoCalGas or customer sites.* Responds to RD&D solicitations from government agencies (CEC, DOE); forms alliances with other industry stakeholders for the purpose of strengthening the value of SoCal Gas funding proposals and improving the quality of research.* Subject matter expert; provides technical assistance to internal and external stakeholders, including developing materials for education and outreach events.* Performs LCR program Gap analyses; develops, frames and supports strategic initiatives of the LCR Program and the RD&D department.* Develops business strategies that capitalize on new and emerging technologies; performs due diligence and negotiates terms and conditions for potential RD&D investment opportunities.* Develops and maintains business relationships with key industry participants and stakeholders including CEC, DOE, GTI, LRCI, utilities, etc.* Leads, develops and mentors LCR staff.* Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).Education: * Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or equivalent experience required.* An advanced degree in science, mathematics and/or MBA preferred.

Background in management consulting with a focus on the energy industry is also desirable, preferred.Experience: * 8+years recent experience in project management, marketing, developing and demonstrating new technology projects is essential.
