The Sr.
Product Manager, Tanzu Compliance is an integral part of the MAPBU Product organization and chartered to develop and manage the compliance program roadmap and work collaboratively with vertical product managers to ensure that individual product roadmaps prioritize compliance initiatives.
This role will be focusing on FIPS, Common Criteria, FedRAMP, DISA STIGs, DoD IL5/6, and Classified Programs.
What is the primary need, business challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?
In this role, you will be responsible for defining product strategies across the Tanzu portfolio within the realm of compliance.
Your scope will include working across all Tanzu products in the portfolio to ensure that compliance program initiatives are prioritized in the individual product roadmaps.
You will also be responsible for shifting product compliance strategy from the individual product level to the product edition level to ensure that all product components within an edition meet compliance requirements.
A major focus for this role will be on our U.S.
Federal Government customer compliance requirements.
You will also be the product owner for internal compliance tooling, working in alignment with our compliance engineering team.
Compliance is a critical element of the VMware Tanzu portfolio, and your impact will enable growth into new markets.
Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
* Success in the first three months means driving roadmap updates for FIPS, FedRAMP, Common Criteria, DoD IL5/6, and Classified Programs across dozens of products.
* Success in the first six months means partnering with individual product and engineering teams to deliver critical compliance initiatives such as FedRAMP, FIPS, and DoD IL5/6 across the VMware Tanzu portfolio.
* Success in the first year means working collaboratively with product owners to ensure that compliance requirements are an integral part of the product roadmaps.
What type of work will you be doing?
What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
* Your role will be horizontal and drive product compliance across multiple product pillars as well as all shared compliance tooling.
* You will help drive the short
– and long-term strategy for the Tanzu compliance program based on a deep understanding of customer needs, market trends, and competition.
Experience defining and prioritizing product features in a complex technical and regulatory context will serve you well.
* You will collaborate with other Tanzu teams to plan and deliver integrated compliance work streams across the portfolio.
An ability to navigate complex decision making and effectively communicate across teams will be critical to success.
* You will partner with product owners and engineering to drive compliance initiatives into successful product releases.
You will be the product owner and engineering’s connection to our partners, ISVs, and customers and will be responsible for bringing them along for the ride.
* You will engage frequently with our compliance SMEs, field teams, partners, ISVs, and customers to learn about their needs, and support the sales channel and key customers in a pre
– and post-sales capacity.
* You will be the product owner for internal compliance tooling, owning the roadmap and customer experience.
* Experience working with FedRAMP, FIPS 140-2, NIST controls, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, GDPR, and/or CCPA is highly desirable.
* Experience working with complex U.S.
Federal Government or other public sector compliance requirements is highly desirable.

Thomas joined VMware from HashiCorp, where he built out HashiCorp’s Product Compliance function and previously worked at Oracle Cloud, HP Enterprise (EDS), PayPal, and a variety of SaaS startups.
