SoCalGas: Energy Efficiency Engineering Supervisor, Gct Or Erc Location

Primary Purpose:Supervises the preparation of engineering designs, specifications, standards, studies, cost estimates, and the development of sound technical recommendations, in support of programs, projects, and tasks managed by others within C/I Mass Markets and other departments.

Applies a high level of technical expertise to solve energy utilization problems identified by key/major customers.

Directs and assists subordinate team members, in the completion of their work.

Coordinates input from and participate with, various departments within the Sempra Energy Utilities as needed to meet project objectives.Please note this position can be based in the Downtown or Downey location*Duties and Responsibilities:Supervise and provide final approval for all activities leading to the successful completion of energy efficiency projects and/or programs, including, determination of scope, identification of resources (internal and external), selection of consultants, cost estimates, budgeting, design, and start-up.Provide direction to Company engineers, technical specialists, consultants, and the remainder of the project team.Provide timely status reports to the internal client or outside key customer.Provide final approval of designs, systems or program parameters which establish performance, safety and reliability requirements for proposed energy efficiency projects.Analyze proposals for practicability and compatibility with overall project and existing systems, program rules compliance, other policies and procedures.Provide technical expertise to other teams within the department and other departments within the Company.Provide technical advice to and manage technical development of subordinate staff members and review technical results, evaluations and analyses.Responsible for the development of Company standards, specifications and procedures governing selection, design, application and operation of materials, components and systems, which meet energy efficiency program needs on a long term basis and with optimum economic considerations.Represent the Company’s interests on industry committees regarding codes and standards to insure that Company views are considered.Review proposed changes in regulatory requirements and prepare Company response.Ensure that changes in regulatory or code requirements are reflected in development of appropriate programs.Stay abreast of the latest changes, trends and technological advancements in the industry through attendance at conferences and seminars, continuing education, literature, etc.Utilize knowledge to educate employees and customers in formalized training sessions.Performs other duties as assigned.Education, Licenses, and Certificates:A Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering or other technical engineering discipline is required.A Master’s Degree in engineering or other technical discipline and business training is preferred.Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of California or equivalent certification is preferred.Requires 8 years of experience.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Must possess strong leadership skills and demonstrate good management practices.Must possess knowledge of project management theories and concepts, engineering practices and concepts, and cost analysis, and be able to apply this knowledge in daily activities.Must be able to identify and resolve conflicts in schedules, or the relationship of interdependent functions such as cost, schedule, and quality parameters.Must be able to determine project requirements, assess the abilities within the workgroup, and appropriately delegate to team members.Responsible for evaluating subordinate’s performance.Must be able to motivate personnel and deal with performance problems.Requires the ability to assess the potential financial impact of a project on the customer.

Must possess the ability to review complex problems and propose innovative solutions, which involve technical, operational, and economic issues, and may link new concepts and technologies.Must be able to review and approve complex engineering calculations and analyses.Apply engineering principles to analyze and resolve problems.Prepare and review cost and budget estimates and develop project schedules.Must possess the ability to effectively interact with various departments to maintain open lines of communication.Must clearly and concisely communicate technical and economic concepts with all levels of management in both formal and informal settings.Prepares edits and approves written communication on technical and non-technical matters for all levels of management.Must possess strong negotiation and persuasive skills to conduct effective contract and/or project specification negotiations with customers.Equal Opportunity Employer Minorities/Women/Protected Veterans/Disabled
