Senior Product Manager – IGN

IGN’s Product vision is to build products that enable people to enjoy more games, movies, and shows, and share their experiences with others in fun, inclusive ways.

For nearly 30 years, we’ve been a leader in games and entertainment media.

We have a nerdy, laid-back environment but our passion for our community runs deep.

IGN is at the beginning of our journey towards empowered Product Teams that solve hard problems – customer problems and business problems – in ways that our customers love and work for our business.

Our product teams are cross-functional groups of product management, product design, and engineering.

About The Job:

This senior product management role is responsible for collaborating closely with designers and engineers to understand if products are usable and feasible, and the product manager is accountable for ensuring the solution is both valuable and viable for IGN.

In this individual contributor role, you’ll also be part of shaping our annual product strategy and quarterly objectives.

You will need to be able to influence your teammates, as well as colleagues, stakeholders, and key executives, through your use of data, logic, and passion.

Product Managers must contribute to the product team a deep knowledge of our users and customers, and the data about how our customers engage with our products.

They’ll be expected to track industry trends and the competitive landscape as they pertain to their product.

Finally, Product Managers must become experts in navigating the constraints of our business – including editorial, sales, service, finance, legal, privacy, and people resources.

IGN’s Editorial, Advertising, and Visitor Experience Product Team has a large purview and often finds itself on the front lines of requests from stakeholders across all departments of the company.

The cross-functional team is responsible for balancing long-term sustainable moves for IGN’s site and apps, and nearer-term opportunities for revenue growth on a quarterly basis.

A successful new team member will have to be a dynamic relationship builder, and effective prioritizer to sort out distractions from the work that’s really important to the business, all with support from the Head of Product.

Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

A history of deep, and demonstrated understanding of the techniques and methods of modern product discovery and product delivery.

5-7 years working on technology-powered products as either a product manager, product designer, engineer, data analyst, data scientist, or user researcher.  Demonstrated ability to learn multiple functional areas of business – engineering, design, finance, sales, or marketing.

Demonstrated ability to figure out solutions to hard problems with many constraints, using sound judgment to assess risks, and to lay out your argument in a well-structured, data-informed, written narrative.

Proven ability to engage with engineers, designers, and company leaders in a constructive and collaborative relationship.

Bonus points for having a go-to geeky passion for any kind of games, movies, or shows.

Diverse Perspectives:

Diversity makes IGN better in every way, and we want to explicitly welcome people that bring diverse life experiences, educational backgrounds, cultures, and work experiences.

Please be prepared to share with us how your perspective will bring something unique and valuable to our product teams.

Working at IGN:

For nearly 30 years, IGN has been the leader in Games and Entertainment media.

We have a nerdy, laid-back environment but our passion for our community runs deep.

Our employees will enjoy an environment that shares a heartbeat with one of the most fun and fan-fueled industries, and your “watercooler” moments are more likely to be about a new movie trailer or game release than they are about the weather or sports.
