Senior Associate Director, Eligibility and Verification

The Office of Financial Aid is seeking a Senior Associate Director, Eligibility and Verification to oversee the day-to-day responsibilities of the Need Analysis unit.

The Need Analysis unit is responsible for evaluating student eligibility for financial aid for prospective and current students.

Additionally, this unit reviews financial aid applications for both graduate and undergraduate students.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Creating and maintaining policies and procedures used in need analysis, verification, and professional judgement.

Monitoring and managing the workload of a team of 12 permanent staff, and other temporary/resource workers.

Managing the training and evaluation process for new hires.

Identifying changes to the Student Information System (SIS) based on federal and state requirements.

Identifying opportunities for productivity enhancements.

Serving as a resource to staff for questions related to need analysis, and federal and institutional verification.

Advising staff on complex student files and provide guidance on appropriate procedures.

Maintaining quality control on the review of nearly 20,000 applications for financial aid.

Developing and maintaining guidelines for professional judgement adjustments initiated by student appeals.

Assisting with compliance and reporting matters, such as updating documentation with the state and federal government, and student financial aid audits.

The Senior Associate Director, Eligibility and Verification manages the staff and operations of the need analysis unit.

The selected candidate will be expected to administer federal and institutional need analysis policies and procedures and ensure the department’s compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, as well as university policies and procedures.

This position reports to the Associate Dean of Operations.

Required Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Expert knowledge of federal and state financial aid processes and regulations.

Must be able to think critically, problem solve, and analyze detailed reports, trends, and information.

Professional demeanor, ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with students, parents, faculty, staff, and general public.

Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
