Sales Director – Western Zone

Key performance areas

This is an executive leadership position requiring proven experience in sales team management, team leadership, problem resolution and channel partner and direct selling models. The qualified leader will oversee a sales management team which includes 4 District Sales Managers. You will be indirectly responsible for strategic alignment of approximately 30 Field Sales Representatives reporting directly to the District Sales Managers. The role requires building strategic plans for territory growth and development, leading, coaching and developing the sales team. The Sales Director – Western Zone will support, retain, and grow sales in targeted key channel distributor and end user accounts through individual efforts and joint efforts with the District Sales Managers and field sales team.

Additionally, the Sales Director – Western Zone will:

  • Lead by example and coach, train and support District Managers so they can lead the field sales team more effectively
  • Be responsible for zone strategy, planning, budgets, contracts, tracking and reporting
  • Problem solve by supporting challenges, solutions, and decisions and implementing efforts that eliminate obstacles for sales success
  • Manage District Sales Manager performance, hiring decisions, and align district metrics to corporate goals

As the Sales Director – Western Zone, you will be expected to travel approximately 70% of the time.

Your profile

The role requires a self-directed, results oriented sales leader who will work independently. Top performers will possess strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills and a have proven track record “leading leaders.” Additionally, you should have the ability to analyze, plan and manage at strategic levels. Success requires expertise in leading, coaching and mentoring sales managers, driving sales performance and accountability.

You also possess:

  • 10 to 12 years of proven sales leadership experience in a national or regional sales management role
  • Experience with the metal cutting tools industry
  • Experience leading a sales management team in a B2B environment
  • Success leading, managing and developing a team that works independently
  • A strong technical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing
  • Solid knowledge of industrial distribution practices
  • An understanding of sales metrics, budgets, contracts, finance and P&L
