Risk Manager

n n nn The position will report directly to the EVP, General Counsel, serve as a member of the Risk Management Committee (along with the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Business Officer and Chief Human Resources Officer), and work with internal and agency stakeholders to mitigate risk exposure and manage adequacy of controls.

nn nEssential job functions and responsibilities:n Lead risk assessments and control processes, including coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to gather and analyze operational risk data and perform risk assessments that identify key risks, controls, and gaps.

Risk assessments would be for all Caruso portfolio properties as well as ancillary business units (e.g.

restaurant portfolio), and personal lines program Manage day-to-day aspects of Caruso’s insurance programs, e.g.

property and casualty, professional liability, including evaluation of coverage, coordination and support of annual renewals, and claims management Analyze and negotiate contracts, including liability and insurance clauses within contracts to identify, control, and manage risk exposures and risk transfer Serve as liaison between internal company departments and stakeholders on all insurance and risk mitigation matters (legal, operations, finance, etc.) Review insurance proposals, policy binders and final policies for accuracy and ensure there are no gaps in coverage Complete analysis and reporting of risk management data and loss history to identify and address trends Responsible for administrative processes, e.g.

insurance applications, tenant/vendor reviews, statement of values, coordination of necessary data for insurance placement, etc.

Lead the development and utilization of Caruso’s single parent captive in protecting Caruso from market fluctuations Continuously improve Caruso’s online certificate of insurance tracking program to ensure overall tenant and vendor compliance Lead initiatives with insurance broker and carriers to decrease the total cost of risk Understand and effectively articulate Caruso’s risk tolerance and apply the same at renewals to determine limits, coverages, and retentions Complete accounting and allocation of all insurance and claim related invoices and costs Provide insurance and claims forecast for new and existing developments and projects Collect, organize, and interpret claims data for submission for all lines of coverage, address insurers’ on-going questions, document requests, and issues through claims resolution Work with broker and carriers to utilize loss and risk control initiatives across all properties Attend loss control meetings with carriers and brokers to highlight Caruso’s loss control initiatives and efficiencies Direct the Caruso claims program with third party administrators, adjusters, outside counsel, and broker for all claims with a focus on: Providing the first line of defense when a carrier indicates that it may improperly deny coverage to Caruso or unnecessarily reserve rights.

Ensuring carrier and adjuster are cognizant of and in line with Caruso’s choice of counsel and defense strategy Tendering claims to the responsible party in written form, following up on claims that have been tendered, and obtaining acceptance/rejection of tenders in writing Managing reimbursements from Caruso’ carriers and carriers that have accepted tender Track use of the Self Insured Retention funds (“SIR”) for each claim, and periodically report amount of SIR burn-off Stay current on OSHA and Cal-OSHA regulations.

Update policies and organize training as required Provide support to legal department on an as-needed basis Assist in managing litigation and claims updates Respond to subpoena requests Prepare Litigation Holds nQualifications required: n Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Risk Management, Insurance, or related field Knowledge and proficiency in the fundamentals of risk management and claims mitigation Strong understanding of property, casualty, pollution, management liability policy language and claims process Aptitude in establishing effective professional relationships with internal and external parties in presenting Caruso’s risk profile Proficiency in identifying problems and key stakeholders to appropriately address Experience with single parent and group captive efficiencies and utilization Fundamental understanding of applicable Federal and State OSHA standards and regulations Self-starter, takes initiative, and anticipates needs of others Tenacious and effective communicator with excellent follow up Thrives in a fast-paced work environment Ability to multi-task & prioritize workload Strong organization and project management skills nEducation:n Bachelor’s degree in business-related field required Caruso is an equal opportunity employer.
