Production Manager – Digital Experience Design

Your RoleThe Production Manager within Gensler’s Digital Experience Design practice is an essential member of the design team. They ensure that feasibility and budget are considered throughout all phases of the design process. They work with all facets of project stakeholders, including Regional Studio Directors, Design Managers, Project Teams, and Clients, to properly scope, budget, and plan for the realization of our projects.The Production Manager has deep expertise in bringing complex, physically integrated technology designs off the page and into reality. They are responsible for championing production best practices as well as bringing exceptional experience design insights to all assignments.As a Production Manager, you will lead the planning of integrated AV technology documentation, mockups, prototypes, and vendor communications. Once design documentation is complete, you will work with the client and outside vendors to generate proposals, bids, and project schedules. Once fabrication and installation begin, you will be a consistent presence onsite and at partner shops, reviewing overall quality and ensuring that the design-intent is being upheld at every step along the way. Throughout all project phases you will lead production focused communication with the wider project team (architects, general contractors, specialty vendors, facilities managers, etc.), and will share responsibility with the Design Manager to communicate schedule and budget impacts to the client team.Gensler’s work spans several different project archetypes, including but not limited to, commercial office lobbies, public spaces, and corporate campuses, always with an emphasis on cutting-edge digital media and technology experiences.What You Will DoDESIGN PROCESS SUPPORT* Provide guidance to the design teams during the design lifecycle to help align design-intent with production budget goals, technical feasibility, logistics and other production related concerns.* Work with design managers to develop production strategies fitting to each project’s unique requirements and determine the staffing and tasks from the team to drive success.* Work with design managers and design team to develop budget estimates and production schedules during concept, schematic, and final design phases.* Research materials and techniques, as well as grow a network of vendors capable of producing our type of work.* Lead communication with vendors and fabricators for samples, prototypes, and final proposals and schedules.* Oversee the procurement of technology and materials in support of the design process.IMPLEMENTATION PHASE MANAGEMENT* Develop bid documentation and scopes of work for vendors and fabricators.* Manage proposals, bid leveling, and negotiation processes with and for our clients.* Ongoing coordination with clients, producers, systems integrators, fabricators, construction managers, and architectural teams* Coordinate and oversee production of work by multiple vendors, running regular production calls, managing document reviews, and participating in shop reviews for fabrication progress* Coordinate prototyping, quality control reviews, punch lists, testing, turnover, and documentation* Facilitate and participate in site visits to understand existing conditions and track construction progress to ensure site readiness and installation oversight for quality control of vendors or our internal team’s work product* Ensure smooth transition to occupancy and Support and Maintenance.SERVICE & DISCIPLINE GROWTH* Collaborate with Director of Production Management to develop and maintain documentation that establishes best practices in Production Management.* Work closely with other Production Services Directors to coordinate, track and report the status and health of production efforts.* Work with other Production Managers and Creative Technologists to establish and maintain a database of production partners and vendors.Your Qualifications* 8+ yrs production experience in exhibitions, construction, or systems related fields* Proven management expertise in the areas of fabrication, systems, and general construction issues* Proven success managing scopes, developing budgets, and overall cost estimating experience* Demonstrated ability to supervise & coordinate contractors and vendors* Experience in the production of both temporary and permanent public installations* Experience in participating and supporting the creative design process* Strong communication skills, both spoken and written* Familiarity with general project management software and toolsLife at GenslerAt Gensler, we are as committed to enjoying life as we are to delivering best-in-class design.
