Product Manager, EDA & Business Systems

Responsibilities

The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (DGSOM) is comprised of 24 academic departments, 5 organized research units, and 5 interdisciplinary research centers and is the academic hope to approximately 3,400 faculty and 2,900 trainees, students, and fellows.

The DGSOM employs about 8,400 staff and non-faculty academics.

The DGSOM’s annual revenue totals approximately $2.8B, its expendable net assets approximately $1.3B and its endowments and quasi endowments approximately $1.9B.

DGSOM is looking for a Product Manager, EDA (Enterprise Data Analytics) & Business Systems to lead the development and execution of the Enterprise Data Analytics & business systems roadmap for DGSOM.
Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Finance, you will be responsible for delivering world-class institutional data solutions, through an all-in-one data and reporting platform for DGSOM.

You will learn current business systems (specifically finance, academic HR, space, research administration business systems), and institutional data needs, and propose and deliver solutions by way of new platform/product features and capabilities to meet these needs.

You will improve the customer experience and enhance platform and/or solution adoption and data literacy across all levels of the DGSOM.

The role requires skillful collaboration across the DGSOM, DGIT (the DGSOM IT organization), and Health System ISS & OHIA (Information Services & Office of Health Information Analytics) and Campus Finance.

Additionally, you will drive the co-creation of an EDA & business systems roadmap, local implementation of the roadmap, management of EDA scrum team backlog and setting of sprint goals/priorities.

You will work alongside the EDA Scrum Master and EDA team attending all scrum ceremonies, will research business functional and non-functional requirements (NFRs) and write user stories.

You will be responsible for understanding the voice of the customer, and researching solutions alongside the Data Architect and proposing, demoing and delivering acceptable solutions to the many different EDA product/platform end user(s)/customer(s) at all levels of the organization.

You will spearhead product management and execution of all EDA & Business System projects and/or solutions for the David Geffen School of Medicine.

Qualifications

Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Finance, IT, Data/Computer Science.

CMA or MBA desirable
7+ years’ experience of FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis), Business Planning & Analysis, Data / Decision Science, and/or Sr.

Business Intelligence Analyst
Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) certification required
Strong knowledge of financial and accounting concepts, including basic framework of the P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow
Creative problem solver who can identify sources of information from disparate sources and deliver comprehensive, balanced and actionable insights
Experience in an Academic Health Organization with demonstrated understanding of the intersection of academic versus clinical finance & operations
Experience in leading and managing delivery of large, complex enterprise-level data management projects, solutions, and/or initiatives consisting of multiple agile (technical) and/or project/program (business) teams and/or setting program/product/platform strategic vision and roadmap
Experience developing and maintaining standard BI tool/solution training slide decks, road shows, implementation and/or adoption plans, etc.
Experience as a “leader” able to influence and motivate professionals and stakeholders in high visibility roles to achieve outcomes even when they do not have a direct reporting relationship
Experience building consensus and trust with stakeholders at all levels, both within and outside of the organization
Experience with design thinking and/or design for delight (D4D) concepts, rapid prototyping, and process design & value-stream mapping
Familiarity with SQL, SQL Server, SSRS, SSIS, Visual Studio, MDS (master data services), unstructured and structured data, and familiarity with data marts and data modeling & ETL processes
Lean-Agile Certification a plus
Familiar with Lean-Agile Tools: JIRA/Confluence, Kanban, Roadmunk, etc.
