The Product Development Department has an opening for a Product Development Manager in the Own Brands team.

This position is located in Pleasanton, California.

Position Purpose Develop and serve as “gatekeeper” for approval of new & reformulated products starting from concept through first production including key sensory attributes, shelf life, nutrition facts, processing, safety, packaging, coding, and regulatory compliance.

This position is required in order to provide new & innovative Own Brands products that promote growth of sale & revenue.

Key Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To Develop and approve new and reformulated non-food products based upon product quality, performance, cost, and timelines.

Includes conducting product sensory evaluation, researching product standards and attributes, determining product safety, validation of product shelf life, and directing consumer testing and analysis as needed.

Manage internal and external suppliers including sample and product information requests, specification development, communicating required product changes to address safety, performance, or regulatory issues.

The Product Development Manager is expected to work autonomously while guiding/assisting team members in the completion of their projects and/or overcoming technical hurdles.

Act as the primary technical resource for internal & external customers.

Includes advising on technical feasibility for new product concepts, manufacturing capabilities, ingredient selection, and tracking industry trends.

Qualifications Degree in Food Science, Chemical Engineering or a similar discipline preferred.

6-8 years bench-top/prototype formulations 6-8 years manufacturing/production experience (including supervising plant trials & scale-up).

5 years project management 2 years supervisory experience (preferred) Proven knowledge and understanding of new product development process.

Thorough understanding of ingredient functionality and product formulations.

Working knowledge of sensory evaluation procedures Knowledge of regulatory compliance (FDA, USDA, EPA, CPSC, various industry standards).

Excellent time management skills and proven track record of successfully managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment Knowledge of microbiology and product safety.

Working knowledge of basic laboratory analytical equipment (pH meter, refractometer, simple titrations, various measuring devices, etc.).

Thorough knowledge & understanding of manufacturing equipment, systems and environments.

Proficiency with MS Office and various nutrition databases (ESHA Genesis).
