The Digital department is composed of (3) Indigo, (4) Digicon, and Shrink Sleeve presses. The charter for this position is to be a strategic leader to ensure the graphics production effectiveness is a competitive advantage and world class. The key is leading the graphics (prepress) team to continually improve their value to internal and external customers. The importance of a well-orchestrated graphics department cannot be understated and is essential to our relationship with our clients, and therefore, our success.

Must be willing to relocate to Napa, CA

Responsibilities:

  • ESKO, Indigo, and MIS Workflow Graphics
    • Continually increase efficiency of ESKO, HP Indigo/Print OS, and MIS (LabelTraxx)
    • Fill in the natural IT “gaps” between the IT group and department needs
    • Help research and integrate graphics software and hardware for new products, i.e. shrink sleeves
  • Production Graphics
    • As a manager, ensure the safety of all employees, including the safe use of equipment.
    • Advising sales and customer service staff, and clients on alternative graphic options based on the project artwork, material selection, and technology(s).
    • Preparing client graphic files for optimum proofing and production results
    • Work with Indigo team lead to reduce the average number of colors used, with a focus on larger orders.
    • Work with account reps and production to prepare for and carry out effective client tours and press checks
  • Training
    • Enhance and formalize the department graphics SOPs for training
    • Create a formal training skills matrix of best practice methods and calendar of progression for each graphics person
    • Personally assist with the one-on-one training of graphics staff
    • Position graphics staff skill sets for redundancy for attrition insurance
  • Leadership
    • Perform effectively with attention to detail, in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment
    • Perform effectively in a team-based approach to process improvement and problem-solving
    • Leadership on new product discovery, assessment, and implementation
    • As a change-agent, present leadership and encouragement to co-workers while implementing new processes and ways of working
    • Perform well independently on projects from beginning to end
    • Lead by example with a professional, positive approach that is aligned with corporate values
  • Supplier Relationships
    • Cultivate healthy supplier relationships while holding suppliers accountable for their performance
    • Work with suppliers to engage in new technology testing and implementation
    • Oversee the graphics team’s responsibility for purchasing cutting dies, embossing, and foiling dies, Flexo plates, graphics hardware and software, and laser printing consumables, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Training – Bachelor’s Degree required, or equivalent experience. Minimum 5 years Printing Industry experience.
  • Computer Skills – High proficiency in Microsoft Office, ESKO, Adobe Suite, IT networking concepts, and HP Indigo workflows, ideally has experience with shrink sleeve and PS label production and with graphics embellishments such as foiling, embossing, spot varnishing.
  • Language Ability – Articulate, clear, persuasive, and passionate in the spoken and written word.
  • Math Ability – College level math, including statistical analysis.
  • Physical DemandsMove about in offices and plants.
  • QualificationsBusiness experience and relevant industry experience
  • Reasoning Ability – Rational, logical, fact-driven decision making. Read and analyze production and productivity documents.
  • Supervisory AbilitiesLead and develop others. Relate to people at all levels of the organization, including diverse cultures.
  • Ability to work in an environment that encourages teamwork, participation, creativity, openness, honesty, and mutual respect
