Operations Manager Trainee

Dependable Highway Express (DHE), a large transportation company, seeks an Operations Manager Trainee to work in our LTL Division at our Los Angeles Service Center.

Dependable is a stable and rapidly expanding Trucking and Warehousing company with long roots in Los Angeles Transportation.

Job Function:

The Operations Manager Trainee is responsible for controlling the movement of all inbound freight in a timely and profitable manner.

The Operations Manager Trainee directly oversees all personnel involved in unloading and loading the inbound freight.

He/she will work alongside Supervisor and Managers to learn the Dependable Way.

The Operations Manager Trainee interacts with all terminal departments to maximize profitability and customer satisfaction.

Job Responsibilities:
Promote the Company Mission Statement, Value Statement, “Principals for Success” and “Principals for Leadership” to all subordinates and colleagues and ensure that they do the same.
Evaluate all subordinates to determine if they meet all job requirements and established goals.

Help to improve areas of weakness to ensure that they meet standards of retention.

Take appropriate and timely action of explanation, documentation, and job action when employees do not meet standards of retention.
Set appropriate short term, intermediate and long-term objectives to enhance the individual.

Subordinates Performance in conjunction with established department and corporate goals and objectives.
Staff each position with the most qualified available candidate with turnover, always look to upgrade.
Perform all work in a manner that exemplifies the principals of “Leading by Example”.

Work diligently to meet or exceed established goals at or before the agreed timeframe.
Print all paperwork necessary for the movement of all inbound freight for the coming day.
Process and route all freight bills moving out of the terminal received that day from inbound terminals.
Schedule all freight handlers and P&D drivers necessary to move loads for the day.
Work with dock supervisor on unloading and loading sequence to meet customer satisfaction and use of equipment availability.
Instruct P&D driver of any special needs and/or equipment necessary for unloading.
Evaluate P&D driver’s performance to meet company standards for profitability and satisfaction.
Data entry required for reporting arrival of inbound loads and outbound shipments for that day.
Assist other departments with customer service, i.e., quoting rates, P.O.D., etc.
Evaluate subordinates to improve areas of weakness.
Schedules appointments for freight requiring appointments to ensure a timely and profitable movement of inbound freight.
Advises Terminal Manger of problems incurred and special needs for that day.
Provides suggestions to terminal management for increasing terminal profits and performance.
Job Requirements:
Take appropriate action that is consistent with meeting established growth and profitability goals and objectives of department, division, and corporation.
Work performance that conforms to company standards for productivity, profitability, and excellence.
Promote company image of leading by example.
Minimum of 5 years management experience in trucking industry.
Freight handling/distribution experience a must.
Customer service experience and minimal data entry knowledge preferred.
Able to multitask and to provide support
Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
LTL Transportation Industry knowledge or equivalent preferred
Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred
High School Diploma or higher a plus
Able to work 40+ hours a week
