National Director, MSL – Remote

The National Director, Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a position that will have corporate and field based responsibilities, manage the field-based MSL team of up to 13 MSLs and 2 Regional Directors, develop short
– and long-term strategic and tactical plans for the Field MSL team, engage in and deepen relationships with top institutions and key opinion leaders (KOLs) to disseminate company-approved medical and scientific information, facilitate education on related CDI disease states and microbiome therapeutic products, and collaborate to support clinical research activities in recurrent C difficile e infection (rCDI) as well as other related microbiome diseases consistent with the companies pipeline.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Actively collaborate with the internal and cross functional stake holders to provide input to overall medical communication strategy.

Develop and ensure execution of tactical plan in alignment with corporate goals.

• Manage and mentor the field based MSL team, and develop qualitative and quantitative reports from field insights with KOL/HCPs that would may impact internal medical or commercial strategies.

• Provide guidance and mentorship of the field team and regional managers, to ensure team collaboration and collegial support.

• In collaboration with corporate leaders and stake holders, develop, review, and revise MSL training materials and facilitate MSL team training.

Design and implement plans that expand the professional competencies and capabilities of the individual MSL as well as the entire field team while

• Build and foster productive professional relationships and partnerships with core local, national KOLs in the areas of medical education and clinical/scientific research, serving as a key clinical and scientific resource.

• Drive overall MSL KOL engagement efforts to enhance depth of knowledge of microbiome therapeutics and GI disease critical to the Company.

Facilitate efforts to enhance understanding of patient care pathways, including treatment protocol development. 

• Maintain thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the role of the microbiome in the pathogenesis of the recurrent CDI e, clinical manifestations, current treatment paradigms and product data.

• In alignment with the overall medical plan including communication strategy and plan, lead the development and implementation of strategies and tactics to effectively communicate complex scientific education, including the role of the microbiome in the disease state and product information.

• Effectively deliver medical and scientific presentations to diverse audiences, including physicians, pharmacists, nurses, payers, and internal staff.

• Contribute to the development and implementation of publication planning, medical education strategies, initiatives and materials, including standard response letters.

• Contribute to the development and maintenance of accurate medical affairs materials such as slide decks

• Contribute to the development of abstracts, posters, patient advocacy materials or manuscripts that discuss company compounds or approved products for scientific congress or other meeting, both internally and externally.

• Support and facilitate speaker training initiatives.

• Collect, analyze and interpret disease state and technical product information at medical congresses.

• Provide clinical/scientific education for Sales & Marketing staff.

• Partner and collaborate effectively with internal groups, including Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Pharmacovigilance, and Sales & Marketing.

• Support clinical development activities through site identification and investigator recruitment and education

• Support market access initiatives such as engagement of or presentation to commercial and public payers, as needed.

• Complete administrative responsibilities and internal projects as assigned, in a timely and accurate manner.

• Conduct all activities and responsibilities in accordance with all relevant legal, regulatory and corporate regulations and guidelines, including the Companys Business Conduct & Ethics, policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Advanced clinical/science degree or professional credentials required (PharmD, PhD or MD) or equivalent.

• Minimum of 5 years of previous experience as an MSL in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry and 3 years leading an MSL team.

• GI/or infectious disease product experience or recent knowledge of microbiome sciences is desirable.

• Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory, commercial and clinical issues affecting the pharmaceutical industry is critical.

• Demonstrated ability to maintain scientific credibility while being commercially supportive.

• Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are essential.

• Demonstrated strategic planning, organizational and project management abilities are required.

• Ability to collaborate in a team environment and partner effectively across geographic areas and cross-functional groups is essential.

• Experience in at least one “start-up” biopharma company is desirable.

• Dependable automobile with liability insurance and valid driver’s license is required.

• The employee will be required to have extensive overnight travel (>50%)
