Boeing is seeking a Mechanical Systems Manager – Sustainable Flight Demonstrator Pilot Controls to join our team in one of the following locations: Huntington Beach, CA, Everett, WA, or Hazelwood, MO.

This manager position will lead Pilot Controls/Legacy Flight Controls/Flight Deck Integration group for the Boeing/NASA Sustainable Flight Demonstrator Program. It is an exciting and challenging opportunity to get in on the ground floor of the joint Boeing/NASA Transonic Truss Braced Wing effort.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads employees performing engineering and technical activities in the areas of mechanical engineering

  • Integrates aircraft mechanical requirements for a successful air vehicle modification program throughout the life-cycle by providing cross-functional, cross-IPT coordination, communication, and issue resolution

  • Responsible for working with the other IPTs to identify all associated impacts from modifying the air vehicle and to appropriately develop solutions for those hydraulic power and landing gear system impacts

  • Build a skilled resource team with highly talented individuals supporting design and analysis of new and modified mechanical systems.   Resources for this team may be comprised of team members from across the Enterprise (BR&T/BCA/BGS) as well as Aurora Flight Sciences

  • Develops integrated project plans for mechanical design definition for the full life-cycle of the airplane (including layouts, drawing release and part fabrication/aircraft modification)

  • Responsible for team’s financial performance by managing staffing and non-labor charging for the duration of the aircraft development cycle

  • Responsible for mechanical system-level content for program technical reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, Modification Readiness Review)

  • Support mechanical Systems IPT collaboration and coordination across multiple government agencies and sites including NASA and FAA and with program partners and suppliers, as appropriate

  • Support direct report employees with knowledge of established policies and procedures that typically affect non-management employees and help them accomplish their daily operational responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and grow relationships and partnerships with internal personnel, peers, stakeholders, government organizations and industry partners

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.  This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future. **Note: The expectation is to be onsite a minimum of 3 days per week.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • 3+ years of experience leading through influence and partnering with cross-functional teams on projects, transactions or initiatives

  • 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams to execute to safety, quality, delivery & cost commitments/targets

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering

  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Commercial aircraft modifications technical leadership experience; aircraft development program, prototyping, and technology maturation leadership experience

  • Demonstrated collaborative leadership style; adaptability, especially working on a program with multiple work site locations

  • Experience in work package planning, managing cost and schedule, and reporting variances

  • Experience maturing and developing cross disciplinary integrated technologies for transition to air vehicle production programs

  • Exceptional people skills with proven ability in change management and leading an innovative, collaborative growth-oriented culture with an embedded foundation of quality and safety

  • Experience fostering and building relationships with key internal and external stakeholders – customers, suppliers, government, and industry leaders, and across Boeing enterprise

  • Experience with complex technical issues; responds effectively to complex and ambiguous situations; communicates complicated information simply

  • Experience with entire Mechanical Value stream (requirements development thru design & integration, release, Fabrication, installation, certification, and post production customer support)

Please note that the information shown below is a general guideline only.  Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range: $129,200 – $187,450

To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
