Landscape Maintenance Supervisor

Farmscape is seeking a Landscape Maintenance Supervisor to oversee a team of farmers working on the Eastside of Los Angeles. Supervisor: Farming Director Status : Full time, exempt About Farmscape Farmscape is the largest urban farming venture in the country, with headquarters in Los Angeles and Oakland. We design, install, and tend intensive organic vegetable gardens for residences, schools, restaurants, and other organizations. We actively manage 300 gardens in California, turning the city back into a farm one yard at a time! Job Description Eastside Territory Management Support 4-6 farmers in troubleshooting customer service issues Make quality-control visits to gardens with and without farmers Conduct ride-alongs regularly with farmers Visit new gardens in service territory Communicate with farmers regarding planned vacations, sick time and other leave; determine and coordinate which gardens require coverage Improve systems and guidelines for appropriate route coverage (documentation, communication, debrief, etc.). Season Switch Management Plan and coordinate delivery of soil and supplies to 200+ gardens in collaboration with farmers through spreadsheets, maps, and overseeing crews Plan and coordinate tilling of gardens impacted by tree roots in collaboration with farmers through spreadsheets, maps, and overseeing crews Organize and oversee additional season switch related projects, including garden repair projects, supplies management, and related activities Farmer Training and R&D Assist in identifying key topics for continuing education Assist in developing and organizing trainings for all farmers covering Farmscape-related topics Identify opportunities for increased farmer happiness, efficiency or performance Assist with research to develop and improve best farming practices, including recurring issues, such as critters (dogs, cats, deer, squirrel, rats, etc.) and tree roots. Collaborate with sales department to implement these practices, as appropriate, beginning with garden installation Assist with developing Farmscape service manual by adding research collected by you and other farmers. Customer Service Maintain good customer relationships, both in-person and via phone/email Answer customer concerns in a timely manner and communicates problems upward Represent Farmscape products and services in a professional manner Other Identify opportunities to expand the Operations Manager role as Farmscape grows, develops, and expands Assists with farming maintenance and season switch tasks, as needed, including garden routes, vacation coverage, soil deliveries and garden tilling Attend staff, service, and training meetings as required Additional tasks, as assigned by your manager Qualifications: 2+ years experience with annual vegetable cultivation; related experience in landscaping or fruit tree care is a plus; as is education in horticulture, crop science, etc. 2+ year(s) personnel/team management experience 1+ year(s) departmental budgeting experience Expert knowledge of spreadsheets and Google Suite apps Ability to communicate clearly, confidently, and professionally with customers and staff Ability to learn and adapt to Farmscape best practices Organizational skills and attention to detail a must Valid driver’s license and a working vehicle Compensation: $45,000-55,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
