Position Summary: The Director, International PR & Communications will manage the international communications and media relations function and set the strategic direction of LA Tourism’s international PR agencies to ensure consistent messaging across the global network. The top candidate will have proven work experience in an international PR capacity, a high level of initiative, excellent written and oral communications skills including the ability to write effective press releases and media briefings. To be successful in this role, the candidate must be able to work well with internal teams and external stakeholders and possess the ability to manage projects across multiple time-zones. Previous PR experience in travel, tourism or hospitality, an understanding of Destination Marketing Organizations and experience working across various cultures is preferred. This position requires approximately 15-20% travel (international) and the ability to attend events during non-business hours (evenings and weekends) as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS are listed in order of importance:
1. Manage LA Tourism’s international communications and media relations function, by interfacing with its network of global offices and agencies with ability to work across multiple time zones. Set the strategic direction of LA Tourism’s international PR agencies and manage the execution of their day-to-day operations. – 25%
2. Manage PR activity for the organization’s international media missions, press events and trade shows. Collaborate with the SVP, Global Communications to determine the PR approach surrounding hosting IPW 2024 in Los Angeles including press brunch, press FAM tours and other media relations activity surrounding the event. – 20%
3. Devise a communications plan to ensure consistent messaging across the global network, taking a proactive approach to PR/storytelling in LA Tourism’s key international markets while acting as an advisor to global colleagues. – 20%
4. Manage LA Tourism’s international familiarization (FAM) tour strategy and plan. Devise a system to manage the execution of the FAM program, collaborate with the international PR team and reps, and coordinate with HQ personnel (familiarization and global communications teams). Ensure positive storytelling by showcasing LA Tourism’s six product pillars. – 15%
5. Cultivate media relationships with US-based correspondents representing international media based in LA, NYC, DC and beyond, especially those with more of a lifestyle focus. – 15%
6. Perform other duties as assigned. – 5%
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred and a minimum of 6-8 years of relevant experience required. Previous experience with a Destination Marketing Organization, tourism or hospitality industry preferred. Foreign language skills a plus (Spanish, French or Mandarin are particularly helpful).
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license and be able to drive a vehicle for work-related travel as needed and as applicable to the position. Must be willing to partake in a comprehensive background check including a drug test in accordance with applicable laws.

1. Previous experience working in an international PR capacity, and ability to juggle multiple tasks across several time zones.
2. Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Requires normal range of hearing, talking, and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports and information.

COMPENSATION RANGE:
Exact compensation may vary based on skills and experience.
$100,000 – $115,000
