Facebook is looking for a driven, results-oriented Governance Manager, Global Strategic Initiatives to join our Global Strategic Initiatives Team. The team’s mission is to partner with colleagues across Facebook to design, build, and manage new decision making mechanisms and institutions to give people greater control over Facebook’s products and services. One of our flagship projects is the establishment and operation of an external Oversight Board to exercise independent judgment over some of Facebook and Instagram’s most difficult and significant content decisions. In this role, you will partner with both internal and external teams to contribute to the standup and implementation of governance team initiatives, as well as solve ongoing operational problems related to the Oversight Board. Specifically, you will be responsible for developing and managing relationships with Oversight Board trustees and members, including designing and implementing an orientation and learning program for new board members and acting as the key point of contact for Oversight Board member-related issues. You will also be responsible for helping the governance team to scope and assess new initiatives and understand industry, academic, and civil society perspectives on content moderation.The ideal candidate will demonstrate flexibility, teamwork, and strong execution skills. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, and have strong attention to detail. The candidate should also have strong communication skills, enabling them to manage relationships with a diverse array of high-level stakeholders, design and conduct presentations and training programs, and collaborate with key stakeholders internally and externally to understand program requirements, shape deliverables, and execute program plans. You should be passionate about the services we provide and the people that we serve.
  • Design, manage, and execute an orientation and training program for new Oversight Board members, including by partnering with cross-functional teams such as Product, Engineering, Operations, Communications, and Policy to identify training opportunities
  • Develop and manage relationships with Oversight Board trustees, members, and member candidates
  • Act as the team’s day-to-day point of contact for Oversight Board members
  • Develop process improvements in relation to key team projects and initiatives
  • Develop tools and metrics for measuring the efficacy of projects
  • Help to identify and resolve issues related to the operation of the Oversight Board
  • Conduct trainings and briefings
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years of experience in developing and managing relationships with high-level, cross-cultural stakeholders
  • Experience in project design, management, or execution
  • Experience working in a cross-functional environment, building consensus, and collaborating to advance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience preparing project plans, memos, talking points, position papers, and/or analysis
  • JD, LLM, LLB degree or paralegal training
  • Experience designing orientation and learning programs, especially for technical topics
  • Experience in content policy development, operations, and enforcement
  • Experience supporting a team carrying out complex policy initiatives
  • Experience in collaboration between law, policy, or political science and technology
