Global Surgery Program Manager-Surgery

Responsibilities

In this role, you will serve as the program administrator for the new Global Surgery Program at UCLA.

You will be part of a team seeking to build capacity with partners in low and middle-income countries who care for the injured and those with surgical diseases.

Duties may include grant-writing, IRB preparation, data management, and manuscript generation.

Fundraising will be a key part of the program administrator’s duties, including researching grant opportunities through both public and private sectors, as well as grant preparation and facilitation of communication with potential funding sources.

You will assist the Principal Investigators and senior research staff with oversight of studies, and assist in developing, designing and writing research proposals leading to successful extramural funding and high-impact publications.

You will also provide a unique opportunity to be part of the formation and growth of a novel organization from the ground up.

Responsibilities and duties will be diverse and of varying levels, as this is a new organization with a small faculty and staff, and the program administrator position requires an individual with a high degree of motivation and independence who is interested in taking a pivotal role in the creation of something new.

Qualifications

Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Sciences, Biostatistics, Epidemiology or a related field, and two years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays
Able to work independently with minimal supervision and to adhere to specific
protocols for all data collection
Demonstrated computer proficiency
Basic proficiency in Stata or a similar statistical package
Exceptional attention to detail; good organizational skills, punctuality and record of reliability
Experience with clinical research and project management
Preferred:
Experience in entering clinical data into electronic databases with a high degree of accuracy preferred
Experience with extramural grant applications preferred
Previous experience with Institutional Review Board submissions preferred
Previous experience working with datasets and database management preferred
Two or more years of experience working in Public Health, Global Health, or Clinical Research projects involving vulnerable populations preferred
